Happy Friday the 13th!

A little retro throwback to celebrate Friday the 13th. My fused bead creation, Jason from the Nintendo NES game, Friday the 13th. I made him with colours from the movies rather than the game though.

And speaking of Friday the 13th games, yesterday the kickstarter project, Friday the 13th game hit its target goal of $700,000. This multiple player game which is being created by Gun Media will allow you to play as Jason Voorhees for the first time ever and have you stalking the camp counselors of Camp Crystal Lake. Or you can play as one of camp counselors as they attempt to survive the night.

This project sees the return of Tom Savini, the makeup mastermind behind the look of the original Jason in Friday the 13th series and Kane Hodder, probably the best actor behind the mask in the series.

There is still 14 hours to go on this kickstarter project if you want to grab a perk while they are still available. Head over to their kickstarter page to check out all the perks which range from $5 to $10,000.

Finally...

Took me long enough.... but I finally figured out how to center my blog title image and fix the issue that kept the social media share buttons from popping up on my posts. I am not the best at html code but I am nothing but not resourceful.

I googled it. Ha!

Minecraft Cupcakes

My nephew's birthday party is today and he is a big fan of Minecraft, so being the awesome Aunt I am, I decided to make him a bunch of Minecraft cupcakes. Problem is he is really picky... I mean really picky. He only likes vanilla cupcakes with vanilla icing and they have to be white in colour, so I made a bunch of Minecraft cupcake toppers for him out of perler beads.

I made 6 weapons and tools and stuck them into the cupcakes, and then I made 6 characters and monsters from the game and just placed them on top of the cupcakes. I really love the final product and hope to sell these in my store at some point. I hope my nephew like these too. I figure these would make great magnets afterwards or we could use them to make a frame or something.

If you like my pixel art work, please check out my Etsy store and Kickstarter campaign for more artwork.

Help me fund my Etsy store, Pixelized Creations again

I have been trying to restart my Etsy store, once Pixelated Creations, but now called Pixelized Creations but due to a lack of funds, I have not been able to get the supplies needed to stock my store with all the best items.

I have a few items up in the store but only old items I have on hand but nothing is selling and so I can't put any money towards buying any new supplies for new items which I know will sell like they used to.

So I have decided to turn to Kickstarter to bank roll my store reopening. There are various pledge levels from $5 to $50 with lots of great reward items like Chocobo & Moogle magnets, Super Mario Bros. Mushroom keychains, Final Fantasy Character 4 magnet sets, Secret of Mana magnets set, and more.

Please check my Kickstarter page out and consider pledging. Once I have reached my goal of $300 (beads are not cheap even though they are a kid's craft), I will get everyone's rewards out as soon as possible.

Check it out here.

UPDATE: Marineland Lawsuit - Tom McConnell interviews Mike Garrett

For anyone who read my earlier post and is interested in learning a bit more about what exactly is going on with the Marineland lawsuit, you can hear an interview with my husband, Mike on 610 Talk Radio. We are still planning on fighting the lawsuit but we still need a lot of support.

The Cost of Free Speech: $1.5 Million Dollars

According to the lawyers at Marineland, free speech doesn't come cheap. $1.5 million dollars to be exact, the amount they are suing my husband, Mike for.

Marineland is an amusement park located in Niagara Falls, Canada which has operated for years with marine and land animals as part of their attraction. In the last two decades, 20 beluga whales, 14 orca whales, and 6 dolphins have died at the park, all prematurely and these animals are buried in a mass grave at the back of the park. The park also has bears which are forced to beg for sugary corn pops from visitors, and deer who are shot by the owner instead of given proper vet care when they are sick. The park's last orca whale, Kiska, is forced to live in tiny, chlorine filled tank alone with no other whales to socialize with. She has watched all 5 of her babies die.

In the past couple of months, my husband has taken up the cause of protesting and passing out information about Marineland. The owner, John Holer has done everything in his power to stop his efforts and the efforts of other activists from leafleting outside the park. Holer and some of his employees have blocked their path, called the police, and threaten them with death and violence.

All this to avoid all the visitors to his park from learning the truth about how the animals are really treated behind closed doors.

Finally in a last attempt to silence my husband, Marineland has decided to sue him for $1.5 million dollars. They are also suing 4 other people - former Marineland staff members who spoke to the press about park, and one of the founding members of the Marineland Animal Defense. The newspaper, The Toronto Star, who picked up the news story is also being sued by Marineland.

Holer has been using his money and status for years to bully the little guy. He bought the Green Oaks trailer park in Niagara Falls in 2010, and evicted 47 families from their homes which resulted in the suicide of one resident, Paula Millard. This property which he so desperately required at the time, now sits vacant 3 years later.

My husband and I believe greatly in ending animal captivity and cruelty, and as such we refuse to back down from Mr. Holer just because he is trying to silence us with his scary lawsuit. Fighting this though will take a lawyer and money, two things which we don't have currently. So we are asking other like-minded individuals who believe in anti-captivity, anti-cruelty, or even just freedom of speech to help us fight the good fight with a small donation of whatever you can spare.

Top Geekest Wedding Scenes: #7 Princess Bride - The Wedding Scene

I am getting married in less than two weeks and I thought it would make a great opportunity to post all my favorite geeky wedding scenes leading up to the big day.

Number #7 (I couldn't think of more than 10) is the Princess Bride Wedding Scene. Peter Cook is hilarious as the priest. I love that some couples have had their officiant emulate this scene on their wedding day too.

The Girl Gamer is getting Married!

So believe it or not, this little gaming chick is finally tying the knot to her long time boyfriend of 8 years in August. It's not going to be a huge ceremony - just a few family members to witness the lovely event and then dinner afterwards.

My husband to be won't let me go nuts with a totally geek themed wedding but I wouldn't be me if I didn't get my way on a few things in this wedding. Rather than coming down the aisle to the traditional bridal music, I talked him into a beautiful orchestral version of Zelda's Lullaby. This song is so pretty and just fits the moment perfectly.

I also loved this version of Pachelbels Cannon with a 8-bit twisted on it. Another perfect song for a gamer themed wedding.

Teletoon Superfan Fridays: Star Wars: The Clone Wars Preview

Here at The Girl Gamer, we love things all geek ... videogames, crafts, movies and especially cartoons! So when the people at Teletoon, the most awesome Canadian cartoon station asked me to come down and check out the first two episodes of the new 3rd season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I couldn't refuse.

So next Tuesday I am heading down to T.O to the Teletoon offices to mingle with the Superfan Friday Team and check out some sweet Star Wars action. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is part of the Superfan Friday lineup on Teletoon every Friday night from 7pm to 9pm. Other cartoons in the lineup include Batman: The Brave and the Bold, The Justice League and Wolverine and the X-Men.
The 3rd Season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars starts September 17.

I will have more about the 3rd season when I check out the show next week.

Apparently Now I'm From Costa Rica

So the other day I got an email from a friend telling me that I work has appeared on a gallery for Perler Bead art. So I followed the link she sent me and find my 3D Mario Mushroom picture uploading onto some gallery for a Perler Bead store but it's listed under the name, Adrian - 14-year-old, Costa Rica. What the fuck!

Now I wouldn't be so mad if it was my design he stole but it was my picture. He couldn't even get up of his lazy little 14-year-old butt to made the god damn thing himself in order to earn the pattern the site offers when you post something in the gallery. Nope, he just ripped off my picture and uploaded it.

But I have spies everywhere as I always say and I found out. I emailed the main parent company site, EK Success Brands, to get them to take the picture down but they never responded, useless pricks ... so I'm just going to rant about their lack of help and this little bastard, Adrian on all my online outlets. Probably won't do anything but it makes me feel better.

Also from here on out, every one of my photos will be re-uploaded with my company name on them. I am so sick of people stealing my photos and custom designs.

Shopping on Threadless: Gamer Edition

I've been birthday shopping for my wee nephew who's going to be 1-years-old this month and I always like to get my nephew something fun and something practical - usually clothes and a toy. So noticed Threadless.com finally added Paypal payment to their site, so I decided to buy him a shirt I wanted to buy my first nephew Evan a long time ago.

Unfortunately the shirt wasn't available in his size ... boo.
So I went for the next best idea which was a cute little Donkey Kong shirt called "Arcade Expressionism" by Brock Davis. I have seen this shirt around the net before and thought is was awesome. My oldest nephew plays videogames and I think its time to start getting the younger one hooked.

My Other Ride Is a Light Cycle - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever
But this wasn't the only cool t-shirt design I found. There was the "My Other Ride is Light Cycle" by Rolf Nelson which is a Tron tribute shirt or hoodie.

Haunted Hedge Maze - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever
The "Haunted Hedge Maze" by Aled Lewis which is a Pac-Man tribute shirt.

A Simple Plan - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever
Or finally my favorite, "A Simple Plan" by Neil Gregory which is a Space Invaders tribute.

A Big Thank You to My Readers

I don't say it much but through all the projects I been involved in, it's nice to know that at the end of the day I still have my blog no matter what. Sure, I don't have a mass amount of readers on my blog and it has never been a huge money maker for me but overall I just like to know that it's here for me.

No one can fire me from it and no one can tell me how to run it. The Girl Gamer will always be mine as long as I keep it alive on a server somewhere.

I want to thank everyone who takes the time to read my thoughts here. I appreciate that you come here and support me.

Another Reason Why I Have to Stop Buying from EB Games

Okay, so generally I don't like to buy from EB Games unless there is some amazing deal going on there or they are having a midnight launch with cool prizes and stuff, but today I had no choice in the matter because my usual videogame supplier, Entertainment Overload didn't have the game I wanted.

I did trade in my games there because they always have the better trade in value but I ultimately had to give in and go over to EB Games to buy my copy of Dragon Age Awakening because they didn't have any copies in stock. Hell, I even had EO call over to their second store in town to look for a copy but no such luck.

So I head over EB Games with cash in hand and a small credit on a EB Games gift card that I got back in November when I went to the midnight Modern Warfare 2 launch. When I get there, I look around for a used copy but don't see one, so I ask about it. And here's where I ultimately regretted walking through the door - the clerk gives me some line about how the game is a download from disc deal and the company won't take used copies on trade because people can download the game onto their hard drive and then trade the game back.

Here's the kicker - if you go on the EB Games website which I did before I opted to buy the game, the site shows the game for sale used in the local stores. If the company didn't take the disc in for trade, then how could they sell it used? Also the game isn't a download from disc - you must have the disc in the system at all times in order to play it. So she lied on both accounts which just made me want to walk out right there but I had the stupid credit to spend, so I just swallowed my pride and bought the game.

Best part was when the other clerk offered me a disc guaranteed. No, thank you. See I won't need to buy that guarantee if I can download the content from the disc and play without the disc. I'll just keep my disc save and sound in its case the whole time. God, I hate people sometimes.

If this is not another reason to buy from local businesses then I don't know what is.

Someone Got Bored the Other Day and Stole My Work - UPDATED

I have spies everywhere - remember that and I have Google - http://twitter.com/SporkEnthusiast - her real name is Samantha Allison. Hi bitch!

So today I get a Flickr message from a very nice person who informs me that some douchebag named SPORKENTHUSIAST (got that... good) has decided to claim my bead artwork as their own and post it on Reddit.com. And before anyone starts into the whole copyright debate, I'm not talking about patterns, I'm talking about actually pictures of my friggn' work.

They actually ripped pictures of four of my creations from the net, along with two other images from two other artists. They posted old pictures of my Sonic, Tails, Master Chief and Link & Zelda creations. I've updated most of the pictures in my flickr account now to newer ones, but I still have the old ones to compare to in my Etsy store. You can see for yourselves from the links I posted above that they are the same.

Luckily my bead work is so easy to spot that my Flickr friend noticed they were mine and pointed out his theft. Also they were exposed by one of the other artists they stole from and that ultimately got the thread removed.

The thread is still there for viewing but I can't put in my two cents in the comments, so instead I reported everything they were doing - every comment, every story - everything. Hopefully the people at Reddit.com will ban them for something.

God I hate the internet sometimes - cause it makes it too easy for people to do this.

My Friends Rule - Me as Batgirl

I have a wicked artist friend, Eric DeSantis who created the pinup girl picture you see on my sidebar and he posts his artwork on a blog with other fellow artists. It's called Cup O'Doodle. Lately he's been doing comic book stuff and I challenged him to not only do Batman but do me as Batgirl. Today I found this - "Have Faith in Batgirl". Okay, girl scream!

Eric is so amazing for doing this. Please check out the Cup O'Doodle blog, his other blogs and buy his stuff. Support Eric and his amazing work!
