Minecraft Cupcakes

My nephew's birthday party is today and he is a big fan of Minecraft, so being the awesome Aunt I am, I decided to make him a bunch of Minecraft cupcakes. Problem is he is really picky... I mean really picky. He only likes vanilla cupcakes with vanilla icing and they have to be white in colour, so I made a bunch of Minecraft cupcake toppers for him out of perler beads.

I made 6 weapons and tools and stuck them into the cupcakes, and then I made 6 characters and monsters from the game and just placed them on top of the cupcakes. I really love the final product and hope to sell these in my store at some point. I hope my nephew like these too. I figure these would make great magnets afterwards or we could use them to make a frame or something.

Buying Nintendo Figures for Cheap: Bonus Candy too!

I love my action figure collection. I have spent oodles of money buying Final Fantasy X, Resident Evil, Corpse Bride, Dawn, Batman and lots more figures but sometimes you don't have to break the bank to add to your collection.

Today I added two items to my figures collection and they came from the weirdest place - the candy aisle. My boyfriend bought me the first figure and it came from the top of a candy container. Mario is attached to the lid of a barrel which contained little fruit candies but he looks better than figures I see at work and cheaper too. If I could only remove the lid from his feet without breaking him, I would be happier with him.

The second figure I bought in bulk cause he was so cool - Bob-omb. I bought him at the dollar store and he comes filled with fruit powder candy. His fuse top comes off and reveals a tiny candy stick for dipping into the fruit powder much like Fun Dip candy. Once I eat the candy, I plan to glue the lids shut and display them.

Sure they aren't made by McFarlane Toys or NECA but who cares? They cost a buck a piece and I think they look awesome! Plus they will look nice with my mini green mushroom which once held sour candies.

Spitting Pixels - Jelly Bean Pixel Art

Fellow pixel artist and Canadian, Patrick Pilon posted this video this morning on facebook. I love the idea of making anything pixelated out of stuff you can find around the house. So far I've done stickers, paint and beads but nothing else but I've seen cross-stitch, food, beer caps, yarn, lego, spray paint, pop cases and more. People can be so creative. I want to make something out of the coloured price stickers at work but I doubt they will let me.

A Dharma Restaurant? I think I Hear ABC's Lawyers ....

Believe or not, a group of people are opening a restaurant in Massachusetts that is themed around the Dharma Initiative. The restaurant, Dharma Buns is still in the process of building but already has their logo, a video and website to promote the place.

Apparently their logo is not a direct copy of the Lost Dharma logo, so they believe they can't be sued over this but if ABC gets wind of this and feels they infringe on the idea enough - who knows what might happen.

I think the idea is pretty cool though and hopefully all will go well for them.

100 Cupcake Game - Guess the Game

Steelhead Studio throws a big in-house party each year to ring in the New Year and this year they made 100 cupcakes as part of a game. Each cupcake represented a different game, either a videogame or board game.

They posted pictures of all the cupcakes on their website, along with the answers. Can you guess them all?

More Then Meets the Stomach: Megatron Cake

megatron cake, originally uploaded by debbiedoescakes.
My favorite cake artist, Debbie Does Cakes is at it again - this time she made an amazing Transformer cake featuring Megatron.

The shading on this cake is fantastic. Whoever purchase this cake is a lucky person. I really wish I lived near Debbie so I could purchase something from her.

Surviving with Yummy Videogames Goodies

I've been loading up on lots of cake this week with my birthday and all, so I'm starting to get sick of the stuff ... however cookies are another story.

Snack or Die, my favorite videogame bakery blog has posted pictures and a recipe for Left 4 Dead Survivor Cookies featuring the faces of our favorite zombie killing four, Zoe, Bill, Francis and Louis.

I am yet to make anything from this site yet, but one day I know I will. Those moogle cupcakes keep calling to me.

More Yummy Videogame Food

My favorite thing videogame related besides crafts is food and the best site for videogame food is Snack or Die. The owner, Jocelyn has been very busy making yummy creations for us in her kitchen and I just wanted to show off a few of my favorite recipes.

For the Rapture fans, there's Big Daddy Cupcakes from BioShock. These yummy treats are made with licorice, M&Ms, and lots of chocolate icing.

For the Sony Fanboys, there's Sackboy Cupcakes from LittleBigPlanet. So cute you want to gobble them up. These cupcakes are made with dobs of chocolate icing and M&Ms.

For the Lucas Arts fans, there's Purple and Green Tentacle Cookies from Day of the Tentacle. These are sugar cookies made with royal icing and apple jacks.

These are just a few of my favorite new recipes from Snack or Die, check out the whole site for a ton of great recipes to serve at your next LAN party.

And the Parent of the Year Award Goes to...

Happy Birthday Lil Derrik! Now let's blow out your candles, so we can go bust some caps in some gangsters and then finish the night with some brews and some hos.

Nice birthday cake for a 4-year-old kid who shouldn't even know what Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is. Great parenting there.

Dead Space Blog: The People Behind the Game

The wicked people at Electronic Arts gave me the chance to check out their blog for Dead Space before it officially launches and best of all, they're letting me share one of those blog posts with my readers before the site official goes live. Not sure when that is yet, but I promise to post the date when I find out.

My personal favorite blog was Tracy Espesleta's, the assistant producer on Dead Space and her recent post on a Dead Space event that had the team creating the grossest cakes inspired by the game. There was a pus filled sack cake [pictured at very top] that won best tasting, a Ishi-s'more [pictured above] inspired by a Ishimura that won best team favorite and apparently there was a cake with a saw blade on it and a severed rubber head.

There are several blogs already posted on the site from several members of the Dead Space team, Bret Robbins, Creative Director and David Yee, Lead Game Play Engineer, for example and each blog has a bit about the members of the EA team and what they do on the game. Very cool and I definitely suggest you should all check it out once it goes live.

But here's just a taste from Brett Robbin's post:
I didn’t expect you to be so hostile this early in the blog entry, but that’s alright, I have a thick skin and I’m also medicated. Bret Robbins is a twelve year veteran of the video game electronic entertainment industry. He/I started his/my career as a level designer on Playstation 1 platform games, like Gex 2: Enter the Gecko. That particular game was made at Crystal Dynamics, now known for revitalizing the Tomb Raider franchise but during my tenure was better known for the malfunctioning bathrooms. I worked my way up, on the backs of the talented, to the position of lead designer and then creative director.

Gaming in the Kitchen with Zelda

Nothing makes a night of gaming better than food and having the best kitchen tools to make those wonderful treats doesn't hurt too.

Scanning the wonderful world of Etsy, I found the perfect addition to any gamer's kitchen, this neat cutting board with The Legend of Zelda Triforce on it and though it's pretty as all the maidens in Hyrule, I don't think I wanna spend $125 rupees for it. Even if it won't dull my master sword after a hundred uses.

But if you really like 1337 motif's design, I guess you could always buy it and make some of the recipes from Snack or Die.com. My favorites are the Moogle cupcakes and the mini Portal cake cookies. Or maybe so Halo 3 sushi?

Lots More Gamer Cookies

Checking out all the new post over a Girl Gamers on Live Journal and I found these sweet Nintendo cookies made by E. Willoughby aka. ferahgo.

Ferahgo was inspired by my favorite web site, Snack or Die to make these delicious treats.
I especially like the Hyrule Shield which must have taken some real time and effort.

Yummy Videogame Foods

We found more videogame food to feast your eyes on! From my new favorite videogame recipe site, Snack or Die, I found these delicious looking Mario Block Brownies. The recipe is available on the site.

You can also find the recipe for these yummy Rayman Raving Rabbids cookies. I wonder if they scream when you bite into them? That's horrible to say, isn't it?

Shroyer Sweets made this cute, little Mario cake and she even made the Pinarha plants out of icing.

She also made this Mario and Mario Kart groom's cake for her husband's brother.

Now you can get drunk with Mario and his friends!

Scrollbar recently hosted a Super Mario Bros. themed drinking night for the college student of IT University of Copenhagen and to add to their theme, the bartenders created a series of Mario inspired drinks. Not only did these drinks look like their counter-parts, but they taste like them too! Wait ... really? How's that a selling point?

Drinks that taste like Italian Plumbers, Mushroom Kingdom Princesses and Giant Reptiles are suppose to be a good point. Well, let's just hope that last statement from Scrollbar about the taste of the drinks is wrong. I doubt Yoshi would taste like a lime, probably more like chicken.

Check out the recipes below:

Yoshi

Fruity, tongue-pleasing cocktail

  • 2 cl Sour Apple liqueur
  • 1 cl Melon Bols
  • 1 cl Lime juice
  • 4 cl Apple juice

Directions:
Shake. Serve with ice.

Garnish:
Two lime wedges

Notes:
Loosely inspired by the 'Apple & Melon Martini'. The Yoshi was so popular that we're adding it to our normal drink list!

Princess Peach

Pink, sweet, and classy

  • 2 cl Southern Comfort
  • 2 cl Peach Bols
  • 5 cl Cranberry juice
  • 2 cl Lime juice

Directions:
Shake. Serve without ice in chilled martini glass.

Garnish:
Peach wedge and pink umbrella

Notes:
Similar to a 'Southern Peach', but the ratios are modified to bring out the pink color.

Bowser

Fiery red-yellow gradient drink... with some bite!

  • 2 cl Tequila
  • 1 cl Coin-treau
  • 5 cl Orange juice
  • 1 cl Grenadine

Directions:
Stir first three ingredients, then drop in Grenadine for the gradient effect. Serve with ice in tall glass.

Garnish:
Blood orange wedge

Notes:
Modified 'Tequila Sunrise' - the Cointreau adds a nice twist.

Goomba

Oddly satisfying

  • 2 cl Baileys
  • 1 cl Peach Bols
  • 1 cl Amaretto
  • 2 cl Bols Cacao Brown
  • 2 cl Cream

Directions:
Shake. Serve with ice.

Notes:
Heavily modified 'Cream Cake' (for a deeper brown color).

Big Boo

Frighteningly delicious

  • 2 cl Malibu
  • 2 cl Pineapple juice
  • 1 cl Lime juice
  • 4 cl Milk
  • 1 spoon Powdered sugar

Directions:
Shake. Serve with ice.

Shots

1-up

Because you only live twice

  • 1 cl Melon Bols
  • 1 cl Vodka
  • 1 cl Milk
  • Whipped cream
  • Green frosting

Directions:
Mix first three ingredients into shot glass. Place whipped cream tuft on top, then add dots of green frosting.

Notes:
We played the 1up sound whenever someone drank one!

Little Mario and Luigi Shot

Layered red/green shot

  • 1 cl Grenadine
  • 1 cl Kiwi Bols

Directions:
Grenadine first. Then pour Bols - slowly! - over a bar spoon.

Notes:
The sourness of the Kiwi Bols does a decent job balancing out the sweetness of the Grenadine.

Big Mario and Luigi Shot

Layered shot... with a Vodka power-up!

  • 1 cl Grenadine
  • 1 cl Kiwi Bols
  • 1 cl Vodka

Directions:
Grenadine first. Then pour Bols - slowly! - over a bar spoon. Vodka goes on top.

Super Mario Shot

Layered red/blue shot

  • 1 cl Grenadine
  • 1 cl Blue Bols
  • 1 cl Tequila silver

Directions:
Grenadine first. Then pour Bols - slowly! - over a bar spoon. Tequila goes on top.

Boo Shot

Don't look the other way...

  • 2 cl Malibu
  • 2 cl Milk

Directions:
Shake ingredients. Pour into shot glass.

Gamer Goodies: Games You Can Eat

This post is for all the gamers out there with lots of people to bake for. I personally would love to make tons of gamer goodies, but I would probably just get fat from eating it all myself.

From Snack or Die
, a website that posts recipes for videogame themed snacks, I bring you lots of yummy treats to make for your next LAN party.

Moogle cupcakes are my favorite. Made from starburst candies, lollipops and cupcakes, these are probably the best treats on the whole site.

There's also Tom Nook cupcakes, that are so darn cute that I just wanna rent from him forever.

And also try the Portal Cake cookies or the Black Mage ice cream cones.
