I'm not even sure if this is a real training video or a joke but who ever added the riff track is a genius. Honestly though, I hope that Gamestop doesn't think of their female customers are complete lost airheads or this will be just one more reason for me to continue shopping at the other guy's stores. Women shoppers are not deers in the headlights that need you big customer service reps to talk down to us.

Girls Go Geek: Episode 1 - The Guild's Felicia Day

Though the show has not made its way to the Xbox marketplace in Canada yet, Girls Go Geek with Amber MacArthur now has a You Tube channel which finally gives international girl geeks an option to watch the show.

Playing Pokemon Red for 7 Days

I'm all for saving the environment and such but I'm not a big fan of reusable pads or tampons. Apparently some ladies are which is why Etsy seller, Naturally Hip is selling Pokemon natural cotton pads made for the gamer girl who likes to be all earth-friendly and geeky at the same time. Girls can reuse this pads time and time again.

Again, this is not at the top of my "gamer goodies to buy" list but everyone has their own tastes and you have to admit the store owner is at least thinking of everyone in her demographic. The store is currently out of the pads right now but as I know from experience, most Etsy sellers will take requests if you message them.

Fan Expo 2009: Videogame Cosplay - Part 1

Love Hurts: Matching Gamer Tattoos

Ah, young gamers in love. Is there nothing sweeter?

Well, Getherpes, a female gamer from the Live Journal Girl Gamers Community recently show her massive love for her gamer boyfriend by getting a matching tattoo with him ... on the inside of her bottom lip.

Both of them got matching Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man tattoos as seen above. Now, I'm all for signs of affection but isn't jewelery or matching t-shirts just as good without all the pain?

OMG! It's like totally for Grrlz!

This is a screenshot from Sony's new website promoting the lilac PSP to female gamers. The kit comes with a lilac PSP and the Hanna Montana entertainment pack.

I know game companies are trying hard to figure out the best way to market to the female gamer but web addresses like girlzplaytoo and ad statements like OMG Lilac PSP! makes us what to hurl. We're not bubble-headed bimbos, Sony marketing team.

Don't get me wrong. Purple is nice and teenagers like Hanna Montana (though I'll never know why) but the rest is insulting. Tone is down and try making it about personalizing our PSP or something to fit our style, rather than making us women should like valley girls.

Guitar Hero 5 Gets Sexy, Sexy - NSFW

If you're not sure what exactly your watching in this video, this is a new viral marketing video for Guitar Hero 5. The word flashing across the ladies and gentleman's censored bits are names of the songs from the game's new track list.

I personally love this video and think it was a creative way to grab the attention of potential buyers. They appealed to all genders with both women and a guy in there and they did a great job of spoofing the original music video, "Baby Baby Baby" by Make the Girl Dance. Plus nobody's goodies were shown, so no harm, no fowl.

Sin to Win: The Future of EA's 7 Deadly Sin Contests

It seems like the public is just never going to let this thing die along with all the other lost souls in the circles of Hell.

So it seems a lot of people weren't happy with EA's Sin to Win contest, but hey, I wasn't one of them. I personally am just mad I wasn't at Comic Con 09 with a giant reason to take pictures of myself with hot costumed girls. I totally missed out. These people didn't and they looked like they had fun with the ladies. I'd also like to note all the lack of sexual harassment in those pictures. Not a tit or butt grab in one of them. There's even a picture with two costumed dudes in it.

Yep, I have no problem with EA and if I had it my way, I would have EA run the next contest at the Fan Expo in Toronto which is coming up in August. They are welcome to party it up in Canada. I even have some ideas for the new 7 deadly sins contest too.

Gluttony: Taking pictures of yourself while eating at the Fan Expo or taking a picture of a videogame costumed person while they eat at Fan Expo.

Wrath: Take angry pictures of costumed people fake fighting at the Fan Expo while you try to break it up. Bonus points if the angry costumed person is beating on you in the picture.

Sloth: Send in pictures of your friends or random people while sleeping in weird places at the Fan Expo. We've all seen one or two people sleeping in a line or in a hallway at these events, so these pictures are possible to get.

Greed: Prizes to the person with the biggest swag collection from Fan Expo or the coolest. Bonus points for all celebrity hair you collect.

Pride: You have to send in a convincing essay on why you are truly the biggest and best convention geek to go to Fan Expo with.

Envy: Just take pictures of all the cool stuff you wish you had and why you deserve that item. Pictures of costumed hotties will be accepted. The winner will be chosen based on the best explanation.

There you go, EA. Those are my ideas for some of your next contests and my offer to hit up the Fan Expo in Toronto, Canada for your next game promotion.

I'm all for any excuse to commit a little sin with you.

Girls Go Geek: Now This I Can Get Behind!

I hate to admit it, but I have a huge lack of girlfriends. It's probably because of my "hide behind my monitor" relationships with people but it also has to do with the fact that I fail to find normal women or women I can relate to. Even being connected to the internet I can't seem to connect with a lot of the female gaming community because I don't always see eye to eye with them on a lot of topics or I just know all the wrong female gamers, I don't know.

But for whatever reason, I don't have any close girlfriends in the tech industry nor do I have many out there that I hold in great regard. Too many of them burned me I guess.

This week I did hear some good news about a person I do respect in the biz and I have no problem promoting anything she does. Amber Mac or Amber MacArthur is a great Canadian and respected female tech geek. She worked on several projects in the past and present including working a co-host on Call for Help on G4TechTV and as a reporter on CityTV and CP24.

Now Amber has been chosen to host a new show for Xbox Live called Girls Go Geek and honestly if it was any other person than her, I would be worried about a show like this (Seen crap female gaming shows before), but Amber is a true techie and I can't wait to see the show when it premieres the first week of August.

Amber will be interviewing different female geeks in the biz each episode starting with The Guild star & creator, Felicia Day who is an awesome actress, comedian and writer.

I wish Amber the very best on her new show and I can't wait to check it out.

Comic Con 2009: Videogame Cos-play Highlights

Now that Comic Con 2009 has come and gone, the massive galleries of Cos-players are popping up all over the internet. I've been sorting through the weird and wonderful piles of picture to bring you my favorite videogame costume from the event.

I sometimes think I miss out on the how cosplay side of conventions, but I feel it might be too weird or unprofessional to hit the convention floor in a costume if I'm going to be going as a member of the media. Anyone have a view on that?

If I did go in a costume to the Fan Expo in August, I already know what costume I would go in. I love this little female Ghostbuster's outfit and would probably wear this.

There were alot of cool costumes at the Comic Con this year from sexy little numbers to unique ideas like The Sims diamonds. I love how creative people get with their ideas and wish more people would come in costume to our Fan Expo.

Max was there but so was Sam. Sam just chose to bring his own Max - the non-speaking, stuffed kind.

Sin to Win: Did EA do a bad thing?

During Comic Con this year, EA was promoting their upcoming game, Dante's Inferno with the first of many contests based on the 7 deadly sins. This first "Sin to Win" contest focused on lust, asking contestants to commit acts of lust with either the booth babes at the Dante's booth or ones from convention floor and document the act with a picture. The winner would receive a sinful night on the town with two hot ladies, limo service, paparazzi and a chest full of booty.

Quite a few different sites have been reacting badly to this poorly worded contest (bad EA) because obviously it looks like the company is telling people to go out and practically rape girls in order to win a night out with a couple of hookers. Not a swift PR move, I admit, but I also understand that EA was trying to make the contest fit with the idea of sin and make it sound lustful, even though it really wasn't. They can't really offer up a lust filled night or tell people that it's okay to grope the booth babes. They know that, I know that and everyone else with a brain should know that, but apparently that's not the case, but people seem to be concerned that there will be idiots out there that will take the contest to be literal and will grab the promoters, or think their getting a night with hookers.

Again, we lay the blame on someone else because someone might be too stupid to think morally and with some common sense. Do I need to bring up the whole violence and videogames arguement?

In EA's official statement, they clarified the common sense answer to why they worded the contest they way they did. The real "acts of lust" they meant were only to be pictures with the booth babes and not actual dirty deeds with them in any way. And of course, the main prize was really a night on the town with the Dante's Inferno's reps, all expenses paid, plus some money, coverage of the event and limo service.

I admit they could have worded things better but claiming that EA's PR reps would suggest that fans sexual harass the promoters is just going to far. Bias opinions aside, I know a couple people that work for EA on the promotion side and they would never promote violence or sexual harassment towards women. They are good guys and I know this was all just a bad choice of words.

I understand that bad things do happen to the promoters at these events and there should be security measures put in place to make theses people safer, but in the long run, if anyone was stupid enough to cause any harm to one of the promoters at Comic Con over this contest, then he or she is just a complete idiot because nothing, not a contest nor a prize, gives anyone the right to treat another human being like less than a person. That's just common sense and no one can hold EA responsible for some pervert's stupid actions.

Worst Baby Names for Gamers

It seems silly now to think that I was worried about my sister naming my newest nephew, Logan, other yuppy names like Brody or Mason (I guess she hoped to one day have him audition for 90210), when retarded authors like Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz are suggesting the worst baby names in the world in their book, Cool Names for Babies.

This book has categories for parents to look through like celebrity baby names or celebrity names, but for us geek parents, they have a videogame name category which is too funny. Check out some of the girl and boy names they listed under videogame names:

Some of the names aren't so bad, but honestly who's going to name their baby girl, Bloodrayne? You pretty much doom her to a life of being a nasty bloody sucking vixen who has a hate-on for Nazis.

Also Paine? Yoshi? Spyro? Parappa? Kazooie? Alucard?! Come on, don't they know that's just Dracula spelled differently? What the frig is wrong with these women? Did they just randomly pick names from the internet just to fill a space in their book? Heck, Sora isn't even a girl's name, its a boy from the Kingdom Hearts series, you dumb broads!

Now, if you wanted to know some good videogame names, try some real names that real people might name their kids like these girl names, Zelda from Legend of Zelda, Alyx from Half Life, Lara from Tomb Raider or Jade from Beyond Good and Evil. For boys, Mario from Super Mario Bros., Gordon from Half-Life, Chris or Leon from Resident Evil or Cid from any Final Fantasy game. Those are videogame names that won't get your kid's ass kicked at school.

Next time, ladies do your research and don't ever suggest that list again as cool.

49% of Canadian Gamers are Female

At the Ubisoft Press conference today, Ontario Premiere Dalton McGuinty stated that over 49% of Canadian Gamers are female. Okay, so I'm one of them, so who's the other chick? Just kidding.

That's great to know that the gaming population in Canada has finally become 50/50 men and women. Must be all those long cold winters with nothing better to do than play videogames.
