Nintendo recently celebrated the upcoming release of Kirby Super Star Ultra on Nintendo DS by releasing thousands of pink, cloud-like images of Kirby in the skies over four U.S. cities with areas that share his name like Kirby Middle School in Birmingham, AL.

The Kirby clouds were Flogos, creations made from environmentally-friendly soapy bubbles and lighter-than-air gas. Pink dye was added to the mix for the first time though to give it Kirby's trademark colour.

It’s been sixteen years since Kirby, the super, tough pink puff, made his first appearance and Nintendo is celebrating by releasing Kirby Super Star Ultra for Nintendo DS on Monday, September 22. The game features three new touch-screen-controlled mini-games that you can play with up to three friends, a slew of new adventures including updated graphics and fully rendered movie scenes.

While everyone else is spending last week checking out the latest in gaming at Leipzig GC 2008 or packing their gear for the upcoming PAX 2008 convention, Mike from Attack This! and I was checking out the latest in the gaming from Microsoft at the X'08 preview event in Toronto.

Since I don't get to jet set off to any of the big gaming events due to money and time issues, X'08 is one of the two gaming events I get to look forward to every year in my local area. The X event is put on by Microsoft to showcase all the upcoming Fall and Holiday titles coming to the Xbox 360.

This year's event was held in downtown Toronto in a bar called Circa, which is a pretty amazing looking bar with multiple levels and even a special room decorated in vinyl toys.

Several developers were on hand at the event like Activision, Midway, Warner Bros. Interactive, Square Enix, Electronic Arts, 2K Games, Sega, Ubisoft, Konami, THQ, Epic Games, Disney Interactive, and even a few small developers were there showing off their independent Xbox Live Arcade titles.

While no big announcements are ever released at the X event, Microsoft did decide to bring in the big guns with Cliff Bleszinski, who was on hand for interviews about his upcoming title, Gears of War 2, which was playable on the show floor.

While there were tons of big titles to play like Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Call of Duty: World at War, I was only able to get my hands on a few titles for which I will be posting my hands on impressions soon.

I will say Microsoft definitely knows how to throw a party with tons of food, a open bar and a nice swag bag, though none of the t-shirts fit me. All of them were one size fits standard male geek and I'm standard female geek. All the better to sleep in I guess.

Big howdy to Jimmy at The BBPS.com and the gang at This Week in Geek! Sorry we didn't get to spend more time with you at the event.

So stay tuned for all my hands on game previews.

More footage from Resident Evil 5 was shown at the Leipzig 2008 convention this week in this brand new trailer released by Capcom.

This game just keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

This is completely full of epic week for me.

Tomorrow I'm going to Toronto to check out all the new and upcoming games for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows at Microsoft's X'08. I attended this event last year and though the building lost power an hour after I got there, it was still a great day and loved every minutes of it.

On Saturday I'll be hitting Toronto again for the Fan Expo which is 5 conventions in one: Science-fi, Gaming, Horror, Anime and Comic Books. There I'll be checking out all the vendors, stopping in on some Q&A sessions with some celebs and hopefully get to meet, Electric Playground host, Victor Lucas at the G4 Booth.

I'll hopefully have lots of coverage for you when I catch my breathe on Monday after all the excitement.

Now, back to Too Human!

Being a long time fan of Nintendo, I was really upset to hear news of the horrible comments spoken today about the supporters of the Wii Virtual Console, especially when I found out it came directly from the mouth of one of Nintendo's own employees.

Reporting from a WiiWare launch event in the U.K., Edge magazine quotes Nintendo of Europe marketing director Laurent Fischer as saying that only "geeks and otaku" want the company to introduce some kind of upgrade to the Wii's 512 MB of game storage.

This statement is not only insulting to the legions of Nintendo fans who have spent their hard earned dollars on Virtual Console games and WiiWare games, but also to the developers who have worked hard to create games for WiiWare download. It only takes a few games and save files to fill up the Nintendo Wii's small storage space, and no one likes the idea of having to delete and redownload titles just to get new ones down the road.

I really hope that Nintendo figures out a better system of storage for the downloadable content for the system and someone at Nintendo fires Mr. Fischer for his insulting and damaging remarks towards Nintendo long time fans. Fans, who I may add kept Nintendo afloat long before the casual gaming market appeared with the launch of the Nintendo Wii and DS.

We stuck with you though the Nintendo 64 and the Gamecube. Doesn't that mean something?

I admit I laughed my butt off watching the guys from Gizmodo screw with the presenters at CES, but I think they should have considered the consequences of their actions before doing it.

The staff at Gizmodo decided to use a little product called TV-B-Gone to remotely turn off any TV in the room at CES. It would have been funny if they hadn't kept doing it in the middle of presentations. Screw with the random floor models just to see the booth people confused on how to turn the TV back on, but killing the TVs during gaming sessions and presentations and you're going to get incredibly annoyed companies calling for your blood.

This letter was sent to CNET from the CEA in regards to "Gizmodogate":

We have been informed of inappropriate behavior on the show floor by a credentialed media attendee from the Web site Gizmodo, owned by Gawker Media. Specifically, the Gizmodo staffer interfered with the exhibitor booth operations of numerous companies, including disrupting at least one press event. The Gizmodo staffer violated the terms of CES media credentials and caused harm to CES exhibitors. This Gizmodo staffer has been identified and will be barred from attending any future CES events. Additional sanctions against Gizmodo and Gawker Media are under discussion.
This ban can't be good for the Gizmodo staff since losing access to CES I think is like cutting off a limb for them. CES is the biggest electronics show in North America and Gizmodo is all about tech. Too bad for them, but if you're going to screw with people expect them to retaliate.

You have to give them credit for one thing though ... they exposed a weakness in the show. Next year expect companies to cover all IR ports on their TVs to avoid another incident like this.

Check out the video of the pranks on Gizmodo. Hey, its still funny to watch.

Video Games Live has added a bunch of new games to the roster for the upcoming E for All convention. Game like Halo 3, Conan, BioShock, Contra, Tetris, Pac Man, Final Fantasy, StarCraft and World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade.

I saw VGL in Toronto last year and it was amazing. The concert series has added more game music to the show since then and I can't wait to see it again when it comes back to the Toronto area.

If you heading out to the E for All convention, make sure you grab tickets to VGL, if you haven't already. Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall, the show's founders, have put together an amazing concert that is not to be missed.

The concert will be taking place on Friday, October 19th at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Believe or not, I think the power loss at Microsoft's X'07 event was my fault or something, cause this damn blackout is following me around. Friday night at work, it happened again.

I get to work and after about an hour, suddenly the bar goes dark ... no music, nothing. And then the power comes back on but only slightly. The black lights, bar lights, microphone, TVs, promo DVD player and strobe lights were working but nothing else. No house lights, no music and no bar register, so no hard liquor or draft beer for sale.

This was fine by me cause I just pulled out my Nintendo DS and started playing Final Fantasy but then an hour later, the rest of the power goes out and now everyone is scrabbling to light candles and setup a ghetto blaster with batteries to play some music from the radio.

Now, I can't see a damn thing to keep playing and so I cave and go hang with some regulars.

It took Niagara Hydro two hours before they fixed the problem, which apparently happened when a raccoon jumped on a power line.

Talk about weird, eh? I never thought two power losses where possible in the same week unless it was storming out or something.

So everyone who went to X'07 can blame the power loss on me, cause apparently it was following me around or something. Sorry.

If it makes anyone feel better, I have a cold now.

Let me start off by saying Microsoft sure knows how to throw a great open bar… I mean media event. X07, Microsoft’s holiday preview event was so full of awesomesauce that the cops had to show up. Seriously, they did.

After fighting through traffic, Johnny Wadd and I met Cosbytron at the doors and plotted our course of attack, which was basically started at the end of one row and working our way towards the food and open bar.

We hit the Vivendi booth first and dove into the one game everyone seemed scary to play, Crash Bandicoot: Crash of the Titans. Luckily Glenn, our guide to all things Crash, showed us a couple of different levels, cause we were stuck in this level that I called, “The Circle of Endless Spiking Beasts”. The ability to take over and use enemies in the game added a unique twist on this old franchise.

We talked with Chris from LucasArts and test drove Thrillville, which allows you to built, interact and explore a theme park and the new Star Wars LEGO, which includes all six episodes of the Star Wars movies with new characters, vehicles and an online co-op feature.

We took a turn with Rock Band with Cosbytron on the drums and me on guitar. And yes, I suck at it. Took me two fails before I got the hang of strumming the guitar. I loved watching the Activision employee singing to every song while everyone else got to play the instruments. He must have sung "Wanted: Dead or Alive" 300 times during the entire event.

There was a new Stranglehold demo that picked up where Xbox Live demo left off with a new chapter called "Personal Invitation". Our Midway guide showed us some cool moves, environment features and even a wicked boss battle in the new demo.

Midway also had Black Site: Area 51 available to play, but after Stranglehold, I was kind of disappointed to see that very few background items were interactive. The squad controls seemed limited to only two commands: move and open a door, but the A.I. on your squad was pretty impressive. I look forward to giving it another chance in September when the demo is hitting Xbox Live.

The game that really surprisingly impressed me was Electronic Arts’ The Simpsons game. It has some cool themed levels, humorous features and great cel-shaded graphics. I really loved that the game allows you to find various video game clichés in each level, which unlocks a screen with Comic Book Guy who makes a comment about the cliché. Best. Feature. Ever!

Valve’s The Orange Box demo was tucked away in a corner and somehow we managed to break the game. We quickly fixed it and previewed a demo of Half Life 2: Episode 2 which was in dire need of some more enemies. It took 15 minutes of driving around before we finally found two enemies to shoot and a couple of crates to break out. It was a shame that there weren’t any other demos available for Team Fortress or Portal, because those are the games we really wanted to play.

Everything had been going so well at the event until 2:10pm, when the power blew and the entire building and event was left with no power, no games and no air conditioning. Call it a giant red ring of death. We hung in there though, with the help of our friends, Jack Daniels and Heineken.

I took a spin around the block in the Project Gotham Racing 4 Porsche and chatted up the Vivendi employees and a few other reporters. The PGR4 demo cars were a great hit with attendees but not with the police; they shut down the free spins after they accused the drivers of speeding. Party poopers.

After a quick bite to eat, limited power came back on around 5pm and we headed back in for more games, but by this point most of the developers had packed up and we missed playing the Assassin’s Creed demo, all of the Microsoft games for PC and checking out the Halo 3 single player game play footage. To supplant the lack of full power and lights, the organizers placed candles throughout the event. It was funny to see people play games by candlelight.

We checked out Viva Piñata: Party Animals, World in Conflict, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare stands, but really didn’t get much play time. Most of the community members who got invites through Jade from Xbox Canada had showed up by then and the demos had too many people waiting to play. We would have stayed but the lack of air conditioning in the building was making it too uncomfortable to stay, so we grabbed some swag bags and hit the road.

All in all, I was impressed with Microsoft’s setup of X07 and though the power problem did put a damper on the day, it only made me realize how much more I want to see and play certain games. We received five star treatment from all the Microsoft staff, developers, and even the bar staff who served us drinks and walked around with those little cocktail weenies.

Best of all, we nabbed some sweet swag for Blue Dragon, Turok, Halo 3 and Microsoft which we’ll be giving away in a future contest on the site. Look for that soon and some hands on reviews of all we played.

Cosbytron managed to score some time with Project Gotham Racing 4, Need for Speed: Pro Street, Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom, Skate, and Gears of War for Windows before we showed up. Lucky bugger missed the traffic jam by an off-ramp or two, so he got about an hour more with the games then I did. Look for his reviews in the next day or two on Destructoid.

I've been writing this blog and Destructoid for over a year now and constantly watch as other people head off to gaming events in the United States, Japan and Europe. Finally its my turn ...

This Tuesday, August 28, Microsoft is holding their X07 gaming event in Toronto, to show off their holiday release line up to the media. Since lack of funds for traveling has been my only reason ... well, that and my lack of passport, I jumped for the chance to check out Microsoft's game line up before their release dates.

Now apparently this is a media invite only event from 10am to 4pm and then there will be a community event held after 5pm for gamers who sent in an invite request to Jade from Xbox Canada.

Third party developers will be there to show off their games as well. Activision, EA, Ubisoft and more will be available on the floor to demo their new games and answer any questions.

I hope to provide all my readers will some great coverage, reviews and photos from the event and I also hope to run into some of my fellow journalists in the gaming industry. Who knows who going to be there and what games will be available to demo.

God, I'm so excited I could burst like a fan girl with a first issue Batman comic book.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME TODAY!
I'M 26 AND LOOKING FINE!
