Honorable Mentions of 2008

Game with Best Character Name - Mirror's Edge (Faith)
Any game with a character that shares the same name as me has to be mentioned. Best of all, I didn't even have to bride anyone at EA or DICE to get a character named Faith.

Best Indie Title - World of Goo
Getting to spend hours making structures with little balls of goo that make cute little noises is pure ecstasy to me and I'm happy to see this little title make it big.

Best Mashup Title - Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

I think we all laughed our butts off when this game was announced but despite a lack of fatalities this game is pretty cool to play. I've already finished the DC storyline and plan to tack the MK side soon.

Best New Game Character in Need of Merchandising - Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet)

This character screams make a plushie out of me and while we're on the topic, how about a LittleBigPlanet TV Show, breakfast cereal and "How to Knit" series of books.

Best Revamp of a Series - Prince of Persia
Personally I hate the Prince of Persia series and could never get pass the few couple of levels in any of the game series without giving up due to boredom or frustration, but the newest installation in the series is amazing and I love its Assassin's Creed feel. The art style is also a wonderful new change.

Best Use of Colour - de Blob
This game was addicting as it was fun. Both a colourful and enjoyable game to play, de Blob was a great third party title on the Nintendo Wii which was a hard thing to find this year amongst all the hundreds of garage titles.

Video Game Music Rocked This Year

While we're on the topic of music, I just wanted to say that this was the year for videogame and technology music, whether it was in game or in their commericals.

From the always awesome iPod or iPhone ads which always have the best music featured in them to the truly moving to my personal favorite of the year, the theme song for Mirror's Edge, "Still Alive" by Lisa Miskovsky.

The Nintendo Wii Fit commercial rocked with "On Board" by Friendly Fire and the Prince of Persia commercial had the very unique and exotic "Saeglópur" by Sigur Ros which is featured above in the video.

Then there was pretty much the entire LittleBigPlanet soundtrack which is available on iTunes and the always good Gears of War 2 commercial which had the moving "How It Ends" by DeVotchKa.

If you have any to add to the list for the year from videogame soundtracks or commercials, or even some tech commercial, leave me in the comment field. I'm always looking to add stuff to my play list.

Mirror's Edge Music Video

The new music video for the Mirror's Edge Theme, "Still Alive" By Lisa Miskovsky. I love this song.

If you want to see something cool though, download the theme on your Playstation 3 over the PSN and play it on your system. The cool Earth background really fits the song well.

Mirror's Edge "Faith" Hotties

I wish these were actual fans that dressed up because they loved the game so much but sadly these lovely ladies are just models from the Mirror's Edge launch event held in Milan, Italy last week.

These Italian models were discovered by the MTV Multiplayer blog on the Getty Images' Database.

I hope to get me a nice Faith cosplay outfit. Pretty easy outfit to replicate and the tattoo is easily done with a bit of magic marker or ink. Love the whole black wig too. Sexy.

New Mirror's Edge Trailer: Runner's Story

Next week seems so far away at this point.

I finally sat down and checked out the demo. I managed to make it through the training session and the first level demos without puking, but the time trial did me in. Having to run so fast doesn't bold well for me. I can bolt from the police when I have to but otherwise I need to take it slow in the game or I will definitely yak.

That dot only helps if I'm watching other people play, otherwise I can't focus on it through the whole game.

NOTE: I still have one more code for the PSN Demo version of Mirror's Edge, so enter my contest if you haven't already.

Being the massive fan that I am of EA's new game, Mirror's Edge and the game's leading lady, Faith, the awesome people at EA have sent me 4 time trial unlock codes for the PS3 demo to give away to 4 lucky readers on my site.

Winning is pretty simple. All you have to do is find me another Faith and the first 4 people to do so will win the codes. All I want is a name and what they're from or you can send me a picture of your Faith too.

I'm giving everyone until Friday at Midnight EST to send me their entries. So start hunting down your own Faith and when you find them sent me a message at thegirlgamer.net@gmail.com

New Mirror's Edge Trailer: Faith's Story

EA and DICE released a new trailer that finally gives us more insight into the runner known as Faith. We find out a bit more about her family, her childhood and how the city came to be.

I love the animation style of the trailer and am so pumped for this game. As you all may have noticed I changed my banner to a newer depiction of Faith. I honestly don't think EA can get a better advertising for free.
While we're on the topic of Mirror's Edge, EA announced the game would be coming out on November 11, 2008 and there would be a special edition "Mirror's Edge Runner's Bag Bundle" that would feature a copy of the game and an exclusive Mirror's Edge runner's bag from Timbuk2. This bundle currently is available for pre-order on the North American EA website for $129.95

Mirror's Edge Animated Story Trailer

More goodies from Electronic Arts and DICE on our favorite new game, Mirror's Edge and video game character, Faith.

The new trailer features a sweet animated version of the game's storyline.

Faith is a runner. Runners are delivery people that travel across the city's rooftops as to go unnoticed, so they may carry their important information to its destination without any one stopping them. In a paranoid world where no one is willing to use electronic information exchange anymore, Runners are a vital source in exchanging information safely.

Usually the police ignore the runners, but now Faith's sister has been arrested by the police and famed for a crime she didn't commit. And the police are after Faith.

She may not have a gun, but that doesn't mean she can't fight. SWEET!!!!

Check out the interview with Owen O'Brian, Senior Producer on Mirror's Edge. He gives some neat behind the scenes information about the game. I especially like the idea that you can play the whole game without uses a game if you like. Apparently uses a gun will actual slow your character down which makes fighting without a gun better.

Look for my banner picture in the video too.

SCEE Playstation Day: Mirror's Edge Trailer

At SCEE Playstation Day in London, EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) released a new trailer for their upcoming game, Mirror’s Edge. EA is apparently claiming the trailer is showing real game play footage and if that’s true, well colour me impressed.

Mirror’s Edge follows the story of a runner, who is lucky enough to be graced with awesome name of Faith and works as a delivery girl who delivers important information in an alternative reality future that has become ultra paranoid about using electronic communications. She becomes a target of mysterious government forces when the information she carries becomes too important for her to deliver to its intended party.

Of course, Faith isn’t some damsel in distress as she’s able to kick some butt and take some names with some killer Matrix style moves. DICE also opted to not have Faith use guns in the game, but her enemies do, so gamers will have to choose between fight or flight tactics when faced with the oncoming projectiles.

The trailer sports a moment where Faith is balancing on a pipe as she makes her way across it and I’m thinking the developers might use moments like this to use the SIXAXIS controls for the PS3 version, much like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune did. God, I hope not.

No release date has been announced for the game yet, but the game will be available on PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows when it does hit the market.
