Are You The Next Miss Video Game?

Are you a outgoing woman that loves to play video games? Would you like to be featured in an upcoming video game? Would you like to win a new gaming system? And even a trip to Montreal? (Crap, I lost you there, didn’t I?) Wait, would you like to win a trip to Mexico? (Now, I have your attention.)

Well, you can get all these things by entering the Miss Video Game 2007 competition. Created as a way to promote awareness of girls in gaming for the gaming industry, Miss Video Game 2007 plans to bring the ladies of gaming to the masses and to create positive role models for future female gamers.

Miss Video Game is looking for spunky women over the age of 18 (sorry, no guys in drag), who love video games or are interested in learning to play.

Ladies have until December 31st, 2006 to enter online and submit a photo. The online voting will begin on January 20th, 2007 and people will have a chance to vote for the ladies based on personality, creativity and gamer representation. The ladies during the voting window will be able to add videos, in game demos, interviews and audio clips to help show the voters that they best represent gamers.

Once the top gamers from each country are selected, the selected ladies will compete in an online gaming segment. The game and platform will be kept secret until February 1st as to provide a level playing field. Contestants will then have until February 15th to practice the given game and then they will have to start the online gaming portion of the contest.

Four finalists will be chosen based on their gaming scores, and one finalist will be picked by the judges based on spirit and attitude. These contestants will be whisked off to lovely Montreal, Canada for the final gaming competition where the ladies will duke it out against each other over 3 days on different games and platforms. Practice time will be given for these games as well. The final scores will be published and the contest broadcast over the web for another online voting session. In the end, the winner will be crowned Miss Video Game 2007.

The winner will receive $1000 USD, a trip for two to Riu Palace in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a new game console (yet to be determined) and she will be featured in an upcoming video game.

Anyone interested in being a contestant or a judge can sign up at the official website, www.missvideogame.com. Submissions must be in by December 31st, 2006.

Guess who got an Xbox 360?!

Finally after a year of waiting for the glitches to sort themselves out and for a better deal to come along, I got an Xbox 360 of my very own. I get a great weekend at work, so my guy and I decided it was time to buy one as an early Christmas present to ourshelves.

I did some research and found that Best Buy in Canada was giving away a free copy of Call of Duty with each Xbox 360 consoles purchase, which sounded like the best deal. We picked up the $499.99 premium bundle which came with console, wireless controller, Project Gothem Racing, 3 months of Xbox live gold and 1250 markets points.

The next day we took our Xbox, Xbox games, PGR and our 2nd PS2 to EB games and traded them in for Dead Rising, NHL 2K7 and 1 year of Xbox Live Gold. (The three month in the package was a mail in offer and I can't wait that long.)

My gamer tag is Faith Taken, but due to stupid Xbox Live rules, I have to play online games under my guy's tag.

If you wanna chat sometime or play an online game, email me and let me know your gamer tag. I will not be taking friend requests unless I know you from previous emails or conversations.

Ciao and Happy Gaming!

The King of All Cosmos - A Child Abuser?

Anyone else think that the King of All Cosmos was a little abusive towards his son, The Prince in Katamari Damacy?

Well Evil Andy did, and so he’s sending the King off to court in his fan fiction news article called “Katamari Child Abuse”. Here’s a piece of what he wrote:

MUSHROOM PLANET [Ratters] - The King of All Cosmos was arraigned today in the Mushroom High Court on several counts of child abuse, as well as violations of child labor laws. The plaintiffs in this case are led by The King’s own son–who wishes to be identified only as “The Prince”–and include numerous nieces and nephews of the accused King.

According to the charges brought against the Omnipotent King, The Prince and many of his cousins have been forced to work long hours rolling curious round objects known as “Katamaris” in order to gather raw materials for the production of stars, a job which–according to experts–is best left to skilled workers of a considerably more advanced age. Though the ages of The Prince and his cousins have not been determined, it is widely believed that all are well below legal working age.

So I Don't Wanna Be One of the Cool Kids

With the release of the Sony PS3 and the Nintendo Wii right around the corner and the pre-orders far and few between to obtain, the gamer world is wiggling in their seats over the prospect of possibly getting one of these wonderful new machines.

Not me though. I couldn’t care less if I had one of these next gen consoles in my home for at least another 6 months to a year from now. Why exactly would I not care to own one of these puppies? Well, because if the past consoles have taught us nothing else, it is that there will always be reasons to wait for at least a year to buy new consoles because no new system is perfect and there will be problems. However if you need some convincing on this, then here are my five reasons not to buy a new console in the first year.

1. First year games are usually last generation quality.

When new systems come out, most developers don’t take advantage of the full capabilities of the machine. Graphics are usually last gen and the games could have easily been played on the previous system, but if you wait about a year and then suddenly the games seem to get better. Plus usually by the first year, one game comes out that suddenly makes you want the system so bad you’d step over your mother to get one. That’s usual a good sign that the system is starting to be used for its full potential.

2. Lack of gaming choices

Not only do the first year games usually look last generation, but you never seem to get much of a choice in genres. When Xbox 360 was released, I think I saw one RPG for it and one platform game. To fully enjoy a system you need to be able to pick the game types you want and when a system only has 10 games available on the launch day, the selection is slim at best.

3. Glitches

Every system is released so fast that usually little glitches will get pass the company and you are left buying a less than perfect machine or a paper weight. Xbox 360 had systems that didn’t turn on, or have video feed to the TV, Nintendo DS had hinges that broke with little or no effort, Xbox had a power cord that could catch on fire and now the PS3 had problems with overheating just before launch. Honestly I get scared to buy a new system for fear it may morph into an evil robot with a mind of its own and kill my family while they sleep. Oops, didn’t see that during testing, did you Sony? Worst of all, you then have to wait for a new system to replace the broken one or you have to send it away to be fixed which means another 30 days to wait for your new system, but at least, you don’t have to do it in a lawn chair outside a Best Buy.

4. Exclusives

Okay, you have three choices in gaming consoles and you can only get one new next gen system. You choose one and then find out 6 months down the road that your system won’t be receiving your favorite game series this time. Nintendo 64 owners know what I mean – Final Fantasy jumped ship to Playstation and left Nintendo fans crying into their cartridge slots. I know you can’t always get all the games you want on one system, but when purchasing your first of three systems, you want to know that it will have the most games titles you want to play, at least until you can afford to buy another system.

5. Lack of Units

Supply and demand, supply and demand. Supply very few units for a new system and we’ll demand it more. What an amazing marketing idea. I wanna spit on the person who came up with it. Every new system not starting with the name Nintendo loves to screw with us gamers by hyping their systems and then not producing enough units for the public to buy, which means gamers either wait in line at Best Buy in a sleeping bag overnight or pay double or even triple the price on Ebay to get the system right away. My question is why put yourself through this torture now when a few months down the road, you’ll walk by a wall of systems just screaming, “Please buy me!” along with 20 or so new game titles.

So to answer all those people who keep asking me if I will be in line to buy a Nintendo Wii or PS3 next month? “No way in Hell!” I’ll be the one walking out of the store with an Xbox 360 and a big smile on my face, because I didn’t have to wait in line for mine.

Now I'm not saying that each rule will apply to both the Nintendo Wii and the PS3. They could stand above the rest and not follow in the footsteps of previous systems when it comes to the problems I just mentioned, but more than likely they will have 2 or 3 of these problems and they will be a pain in the butt to own right away.

However just to make the masses happy before the hate mail starts, I will give three reasons on why you should buy next gen right away.

1. You work in the industry

It’s pretty silly not to have the latest systems if you need to preview and review the latest in gaming for your job. I mean hopefully you’ll be given a system by the companies to be able to review their stuff, but sometimes it doesn’t work out that well.

2. You wanna be the coolest kid on your block.

If you wanna have all your friends worshipping the ground you walk on, because you have the newest system available, then by all means buy away. Nothing wrong with buying friends and dates by letting them play your new PS3. I just hope you have the type of games they like and the system doesn't kill them in some strange accident.

3. You have way too much money.

If you’re a millionaire that can afford to pay three times the normal amount for a pre-ordered system or can pay someone to stand in line at EB games for you, then by all means, buy one. You can afford too and you certainly afford to not care if anything is wrong with it as well.

Awesome Video Game Movie Posters!

One of my site's first friends and links was for H.A. Calles and his Illustrated Movie Review Blog. Calles is an amazing artist and translator for English and Spanish.

H.A. Calles' site features the pencil drawings of movie posters and a review of the movie in both English and Spanish.

Calles lives in both Austin, Texas and Saltillo, Coahuila México.

For more information about Calles, check out his blogger profile.

I have always been impressed with his work and finally decided to share some of Calles video game movie posters with my readers.

Calles first draws the posters in pencil and then finishes them off by adding some computer graphics.

I especially like the Resident Evil poster.

The Tomb Raider was the first drawing I got to see of Calles as he sent it to me after he found and read my site.

Please check out The Illustrated Movie Review Blog for more amazing movie poster drawing and reviews. It's well worth the look!

See his amazing Silent Hill poster.

Nintendo Belt Found Out in the Wild!

Last night I found the coolest belt worn by a customer; it had a Nintendo controller for a belt buckle. He said that he had made it himself from instructions he found on the internet.

Wanna sport a NES buckle of your own, then here’s some instructions on how to build one.

Or if you’re like me and turn violently ill at the thought of mutilating a poor defense Nintendo controller, you can always buy one from NESbuckle.com and they mutilate it for you into a buckle.

You can also buy a Super Nintendo buckle, a Sega Genesis buckle, and an Atari buckle (this one is just a penis joke waiting to happen).

Note: Sorry about the bad picture of the belt I saw, but I took it with my camera phone and it was very dark in the bar.

Sex Toys for Gamers

How about this for the ultimate in gaming technology?

Gamers know that with all the time we spend chatting online, playing World of Warcraft and hunting down cheat codes, that sometimes we just don't have time to find and woo the opposite sex.

So instead of taking time away from the PC to find someone to have sex with, why not just modify your PC tower into a giant sex toy? You can even have it hold your drink, lube, tissues and dirty magazines. Though we suggest downloading so free porn rather than using the mags.

Love your computer! Well now you can really love your computer!

Don't worry gamer girls, there's a mod for your computers too.

Now even the ladies can have the perfect computer with dildo attachments and all! Just load up some pictures of Brad Pitt or Hideo Kojima.... whatever floats your boat and go to town with your PC tower of loving.

Handles have been added for better control of the unit as well as a remote control with multiple speeds and a handy spot to keep your cellphone. You can even add a anal attachment.

Sweet!

This is the Atari Joystick modified into a vibrator for the ladies. That right!

Underneath that condom is a silver bullet vibrator attachment which has been wired into the joystick.

Best of all, it actually vibrates. Talk about a cool way to play Space Invaders!

I'll never be sad to lose at games again as long as I have a joystick like this. Hell, it gives new meaning to joystick, doesn't it?

And finally for the Star War fans out there, feel like a true Jedi master when your pounding your girlfriend's pussy with a lightsaber light up dildo. That's right, you can modify your kid's lightsaber toy into a wicked sex toy for the wife.

Bring her over to the dark side of the force with the might of your jedi skills. Perfect for role playing. Just buy her the gold Leia bikini to make it even more fun!

You find instructoins to create your own gamer sex toys at HomemadeSexToys.com

Playboy's Women of Video Games 2006

Kotaku.com recently showed us a sneak peek at Playboy's Annual Women of Video Games 2006 spread, but I now have the finished article in my hot little hands.

Featuring video game ladies from the next generation of gaming, the spread features from left to right: Sarah Morrison of Tabula Rasa, Jessica McRae from Scarface (in the original there was another girl from Scarface, but she didn't make the cut), Lida and Persephone from God of War 2, Alicia Claus from Bulletwitch, Dr. Jasmine Lin from Timeshift, and Enrica Villablanca from Splinter Cell Double Agent. The picture is a two page spread that folds out like the centerfold does.

Playboy also included a few articles looking at the new consoles from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, the future of online play, and games being a man's game.

For a better view of the pictures, pick up a copy of this month's Playboy.

And We Have a Winner!

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a contest for a copy of GRAW and now I have the winner in my hands.... well email box really, but who's care exactly where it is.

And the Winner is:

**** XOR NAND ****

He will be receiving copy of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warrior for the PC in the mail shortly.

His answers for the riddles were all correct.

Now, if anyone is sitting there going, "Hey I had those right as well, why didn't I win?", well two things either happened - you either sent it in after Xor Nand, and the winner was the first one to get the most answers right, or you got it in before him, but listed the character or the game wrong. You needed to give me the specific game, and not a series.

Thanks to everyone who sent in their entries and look for more contests in the future.

My New Title Banner!

My good friend, Eric DeSantis made me a pretty new title banner for my webpage and damn, I look good as a pinup!

I've been a huge fan of pinup art and once used a lot of them on my old blog. I can't really now because they don't fit in with my video game theme.

Check out Eric's artwork and blog, Litany of Schist. He's an amazing artist!

Sweet Gaming Pants

Found on Deviant Art, this pair of sweet artist created gaming jeans caught my attention. Created by Miss Interocitor for her own personal wear, these cool jeans are covered in paintings of Mario, Knuckles, Sonic, Tails, Metroid, and Mega Man.

I could honestly see these as a hot fashion items amongst girl gamers. I want a pair already.

Check out more of Miss Interocitor's artwork at her site on Deviant Art.com

I especially liked this Ada Wong picture she did. Very cool.

Faith's Video Games Drawings

Little known fact about me is that I used to draw cartoons like mad when I was young. I have this book which is full of cartoon drawing of characters like Bugs Bunny, Sailor Moon, and Fred Flintstone. You can even seen the early influnences that video games had on my drawings, because some of the cartoons were copied from my Nintendo Power issues.

I would sit and try to draw the cartoon characters from the magazines and some would come out good and others not so good.

Here are a few examples of the drawing I've done.

I used to take some of my smaller drawing and make a collage out of them. You can see a few Mario characters in them. You can click on any of the pictures to see a bigger version of them.

Even Kitties Like Nintendo!

Ahh, look the kitty is tired from playing his Nintendo DS all day.

What a lucky kitty to have his very own DS to play with.

I truly believe my own dog plays my xbox when I'm gone, and probably has a higher score than me too.

Sidekick to Link, Navi the Fairy appeared in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64 system. Instructed to help Link by the Great Deku Tree, Navi joins Link in his quest to save Hyrule as his guide and mentor. Constantly getting Link’s attention by yelling “Hey”, Navi would show Link how to perform certain tasks and moves.

As you can tell by the above list, it seems that modes of transportation are a key item in being a great sidekick as well as generally usefulness, but no matter what the purpose, a sidekick is always what makes a Hero greater than what they could be on their own.

My thanks to all who nominated their favorite sidekicks and to all those who voted for them; this list is yours.

Cool Final Fantasy Wallpapers

Video Game Artwork

This evil looking version of Mario, Princess Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom is the actually vision of artist, Jose Emroca Flores. Featured in the I am 8 bit art show, “The M.K.” is the only piece of video game art from this artist. You can download a higher resolution version of this painting for your computer’s wallpaper from the I am 8 bit website.

Check out more of Flores’ work at his website

UPDATED: The original source of this painting’s creator was wrong and I do apologize for not checking further into the source of the painting.

Another good artist with video game art is Norante, who has portrayed his favorite Bagman character sitting alone in a house on a island, playing his Game Boy Advance as well as having a few pieces that remind me of games like World of Warcraft, and Shadow of the Colossus.

Check out more of Norante’s work here.

The Polls are Closed!

Thanks to everyone who voted as this was my most successful poll with 1322 votes in total!

Check back tomorrow for the final results!

Grand Theft Auto IV: Episode 1?

Take Two Interactive has decided after much research to join companies like Valve in creating episodic games.

Researchers have found that normal 20 hour stand alone games aren’t producing enough revenue for developers to make them worth while. With game production costs going up, and fresh ideas harder to come by, the developers at Take Two have decided that splitting games into episodes will produce longer gamer loyalty and more constant profits over time.

Why create a 20 hour game for say $60 a pop and have them sell steadily for 3 months, when you can split the game up into 3-6 hour installments for say $10 a pop and have them sell for over the course of a year? Great idea, you marketing geniuses!

Question is “Will gamers put up with waiting 6 months to play the next episode of a game, when we could be playing the same whole game over those 6 months?”.

Note: The early report on Grand Theft Auto IV being in produced in two episodes was a mistake. Take Two and Rockstar will be producing 2 downloadable episodes exclusively for the Xbox 360. My original source was misleading. Sorry for the confusion.

New Website Design!

Yes, I made my own website template after no one stepped up fast enough to do it for me. Its not the best, but considering I don't do this for a living, I still think its pretty good.

Anyone who wants to do a better one for me though, I'm still willing to redesign my page for the better. You need to know blogger coding and graphics though.

I can't pay anyone to do it, but I will make sure to promote you and your designs on my page.

Let me know if you're interested. Till then enjoy the new look!
