I actually didn't claim it was real. I was aware it was a joke.
This could have been real.
All three television shows used (visuals from Captain N and Super Mario Super Show, sound from either one of the Sonic shows) were produced by the same company (DiC). I would imagine that a third party could have contacted DiC and asked for the rights to use all of that material.
If this was made for spits and giggles by a bunch of kids, they did a very good job.
