Ubisoft buys Game Loft's Studio in India: They Celebrate with Chick peas, Lentils and Rice

Ubisoft announced on Tuesday that they have closed the deal to purchase Game Loft's studio based in Pune, India. Game Loft is known more as a mobile game company but they also deal with Xbox, PC, Nintendo DS, iPod and Blackberry games.

Ubisoft has already ties with Game Loft, as they port games like Catz, Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia to handheld units for Ubisoft. With the purchase of Game Loft's studio in Pune, India though, Ubisoft will have a team available that already has been porting games to the Nintendo DS for Ubisoft and reinforcing their testing team for a while.

The team that consists of 150 members hopes to grow to 200 members by the end of the year and hopefully 500 members in the next few years. Ubisoft hopes this purchase will help solidify their presense in the Asia market.
"Following on the recent announcement of our new Singapore studio, this acquisition
will reinforce Ubisoft's presence in Asia and the southeast region in particular.
India has a promising future in the videogame industry and this is an opportunity
for us to establish ourselves in the country," stated Christine Burgess-Quémard,
executive director, worldwide studios at Ubisoft.
The studio will be closed during the first quarter of the 2008/2009 fiscal year while Ubisoft works on bringing the company over into the Ubisoft team.
