Playstation Network Prices Coming Down in Canada

Since the recent changes in the Canadian dollar, the lovely people at Sony have been dropping prices on their gear up here in the lovely Canadian to match the US prices and we love them for it. *cough* Microsoft *cough*

Now they've been kind enough to announce a price drop with the May 1st update on the Playstation Network Store. Yeah! So now you can download complete PS3, PS1 and arcade games for hopefully the same prices as the PSN store in the US. We'll have to wait and see what the new prices with be, but if they're anything like the console price drop, then they'll be the same as the US prices. Nice, huh?
"We are continually looking for ways to enhance the player experience on the PLAYSTATION Network, and downloadable content through the PLAYSTATION Store is just one of our areas of focus," said Grace Chen, Senior Manager for the PLAYSTATION Store. "We anticipate that this price adjustment will meet the expectations of our Canadian consumers and provide them with a better PLAYSTATION Network experience."

Sony is like Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy rolled into one lately. Who knew?

Canadians get $100 Xbox 360 price drop: we traded Celine Dion for it

After sending countless packages containing poutine, moose meat, and Tragically Hip CDs, the good people at Microsoft have finally decided to drop the prices on their Xbox 360 consoles in Canada. Sure, they didn't drop them to the same prices as the US market like Sony did with their PS3 consoles, but $100 is nothing to sneeze at.

As of August 8, 2007, the Premium Xbox 360 system will retail at only $399.99 CAN, the Elite system at $499.99, the Core system at $299.99 and for the hardcore Halo fans, the Special Edition Halo system will retail at $449.99.

I'm sure there will be some Canadian gamers that will be pleased with the price drop, but as far as I'm concerned, the console prices should be the same as they are in the US market. The currency rates in Canada and the US are almost at par, and I would rather drive 20 minutes across the border and smuggle it back across to save myself the extra cash. I suggest others do the same if possible, just to send a message to retailers to give us fair pricing in Canada.

Don't make us send Rita MacNeil to your offices.

Big high five to Zero Iscariots for breaking the price drop in Canada story early on!

Canadians get price drop of $150 on PS3

That's right, kiddies!

Sony has dropped the price of the PS3 in Canada to $549.99 which is $150.00 less than the original price. With the Canadian and American dollars almost at par, Sony decided to drop the price for the PS3 in Canada to the prices of the US PS3.

This was a smart move by Sony and hopefully Nintendo and Microsoft will do the same for their consoles. As it stands now, the Nintendo Wii is still $30 dollars more in Canada and the Xbox 360 Elite is $60 more. If I didn't already own the system, I'd drive 20 minutes across the border to buy them and then smuggle them back just to save the extra $90.

I doubt we'll see a price change since both systems are selling well in Canada which leaves no reason for the companies to drop the price. But maybe the companies will think about matching the Canadian game prices to those of the US market. Please?
