KOEI brings Fatal Inertia EX to the Playstation Network Next Month

KOEI, today announced that Fatal Inertia EX will be available at the end of May 2008 exclusively on Playstation network on the PS3 system.

"We're really excited about what we've accomplished with Fatal Inertia EX," said Mike Bond, lead game designer for Fatal Inertia EX. "Gamers will be amazed by all of the improvements we've made. Fatal Inertia EX is a faster, more visually-captivating experience packed with new content not found in the original."

Fatal Inertia EX features a never-before-seen environment exclusive to the Playstation 3 system. Situated amidst scorching desert dunes, the Fatal Inertia Proving Grounds is a mecca for aspiring flight jocks driven to prepare themselves for the mental and physical punishment of low-altitude combat maneuvering. Along with offering a restructured training curriculum, the Proving Grounds are also home to the game's eight new tracks.

A re-tuned flight model improves handling and achieves higher speeds than previously seen. Flight controls take advantage of the Dualshock 3 wireless controller and give the optional use of SIXAXIS motion sensing technology. The game's newly-added Master level Quick Races will push the fastest men and women to their limit.

Fatal Inertia EX delivers heightened visuals which include new weather effects, significant scenery enhancements, and an overhauled garage for racecraft customization. Spread across 59 courses in seven exotic high-definition environments including lush rainforests, massive glacier fields, and canyons of razor-sharp rock, the beauty of Fatal Inertia EX could easily mask the harrowing thrills in this high-speed contest of champions.

Should be an interesting game to check out when it hits PSN at the end of next month.

Nintendo Teaches People How to Drive?

From Disney World Guides to this?

DreamCatcher Games and JoWood Productions announced today that they will be developing the Drivers Ed Portable for the Nintendo DS, which will allow teens worldwide to prepare for the written portion of their driver's licence examination, customized to the country, state or province in which they live.

“Nintendo DS is proving to be an exceptional platform for delivering all types of content, not just traditional games,” says Brian Gladman, Global Product Marketing Manager at DreamCatcher. “Everyone needs to study for their driving test, and we’re confident lots of teens will enjoy having a fun way to study the material on a platform they are comfortable with.”

Drivers Ed Portable will feature two modes: Test and Train. Test mode will include sample tests for the written part of the driver’s license examination for all 50 US states, 13 Canadian provinces and territories, as well as Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. User progress will be tracked, so the player will know where they need to improve their study in order to be successful in their actual test. Train mode will include three fun and educational mini-games targeted to new drivers.

This game will make a good reason for teenagers around the world to play with their Nintendo DS during class now. "Mr. Johnston, what are you doing with that gaming system in class?!" "I'm preparing for my driver's exam, Mr. Hinkey"

Playstation Network Prices Coming Down in Canada

Since the recent changes in the Canadian dollar, the lovely people at Sony have been dropping prices on their gear up here in the lovely Canadian to match the US prices and we love them for it. *cough* Microsoft *cough*

Now they've been kind enough to announce a price drop with the May 1st update on the Playstation Network Store. Yeah! So now you can download complete PS3, PS1 and arcade games for hopefully the same prices as the PSN store in the US. We'll have to wait and see what the new prices with be, but if they're anything like the console price drop, then they'll be the same as the US prices. Nice, huh?
"We are continually looking for ways to enhance the player experience on the PLAYSTATION Network, and downloadable content through the PLAYSTATION Store is just one of our areas of focus," said Grace Chen, Senior Manager for the PLAYSTATION Store. "We anticipate that this price adjustment will meet the expectations of our Canadian consumers and provide them with a better PLAYSTATION Network experience."

Sony is like Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy rolled into one lately. Who knew?

Cool R-Type Ship Bundled with Game Purchase

Like R-Type? Then you should love this awesome looking R-9 figure. Irem, the creator of the Bydo Empire shooting series, gave Atlus a bunch of the R-9 figures to give away. Canadian gamers can get one when you purchase R-Type at EB games stores (In Store only), but only while supplies last. Amercian gamers can purchase them at Amazon, Gamestop and Game Crazy (Retail Only).

If you really want one of these R-Type ships, then it’s probably a good idea to pre-order the game, otherwise you may not get one.

Happy Birthday to Me! Beware the GTA FLU!

Today's my birthday and millions of people are suffering from the GTA IV Flu.

Kind hard not to feel small, when every gamer you know cares more about the GTA launch then the celebration of your birth. Stupid Niko. Gets more attention than me today.

I'm home today too, not because I got the GTA Flu though; I'm home because my back is screwed up and I'm still experiencing problem with weird stomach pains.

So I'm spending my b-day flat on my back and not in a good way. I find some way to still shove some cake down my throat though. ;)

Bunnies Guide to Health and Happiness

Ubisoft sent me a happy email today. A new bunny video. It's like they knew it was my birthday!

The new video shows the rabbids playing with the Wii Fit balance board. Does this mean Ubisoft is going to make a new rabbids' game that uses the the Wii fit board for the mini games? The video doesn't tell you much, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Ubisoft announces Prince of Persia for Xbox 360, PS3, PC and DS

Today Ubisoft announced that a new Prince of Persia videogame is scheduled to release Holiday 2008 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. This new Prince of Persia marks the debut of the critically acclaimed franchise on next-generation consoles.

Developed by Ubisoft’s Montreal studio that created Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy, Prince of Persia is opening a new chapter in the Prince of Persia universe, featuring a new breed of gameplay. The game is poised to rejuvenate the action-adventure genre in addition to introducing a brand-new illustrative art style.

The official website for the game doesn't have any information posted yet and just has a strange night sky with a star formation that morphs into what looks like a light reflected into water.

Ubisoft will also release a Prince of Persia game specifically designed for the Nintendo DS system, featuring an entirely new storyline and new characters. More details will be released from Ubisoft in the future.

Wacko Jack Finally Chimes in on GTA IV

Jack is back! Jack Thompson jumped back in the saddle one day before the release of Grand Theft Auto IV to carry on his battle against the evil that is Take Two. Jack has written a letter to the US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, R. Alexander Acosta demanding that legal action be taken against Take Two and retailers for selling the game .

Ars Technica received a copy of Wacko Jacko's letter and posted the following on their site:
"Indictments should be returned against Take Two corporately and its Chairman, Strauss Zelnick, along with other Take Two officers. Indictment should also be against Sony and Microsoft which are making this pornographic game available to minors, and openly so, on their PS3 and Xbox systems," Thompson wrote. "Further, indictments should be handed down against Wal-Mart, Best Buy, GameStop, and all other retailers distributing this game to minors at their retail stores, openly, to kids who are only seventeen."

He then compares the game to, of all things, polio. "Grand Theft Auto IV is the gravest assault upon children in this country since polio. We now have vaccines for that virus... The 'vaccine' that must be administered by the United States government to deal with this virtual virus of violence and sexual depravity is criminal prosecutions of those who have conspired to do this. If you doubt me, look at the aforementioned streaming audio/video. It will make you sick."

Apparently Jack also provided a link to a video on IGN.com to a video called "The Ladies of Liberty City" as proof of the game being full of nothing but sex and violence, but Jack fails to mention that this video is all clips put together by the team at IGN.com, that only shows the nasty portions of the game.

GTA IV has tons more content available then just killing and screwing hooker and strippers and players can even avoid those portions of the game completely if they wish, so really who cares if it's in there.

Of course, Jack is dead set on going after Rockstar, but if regular media goes after GTA IV like they did Mass Effect, they better do their research this time, because Rockstar is prepared to defend their game. They were smart to avoid any nudity this time around and they put a morals system in the game, so players now have to deal with the consequences of their choices. You can choose to play Niko like a criminal with a heart of gold, much like Tony Soprano but with less pasta.

I doubt anything will come legally from Jack Thompson's side, because he has his own problems, but hopefully the Fox News hounds will behave too and won't rally any other nut jobs with a degree to their side.

Review: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Nintendo, Game Arts
Available now for Nintendo Wii

Nintendo fans were beside themselves with joy last month when the newest sequel to the Super Smash Bros. series was finally released after a very long and drawn out wait. Being that I’ve never played a Smash Bros. game before, I knew that this was certainly going to be a fun review and would either end in tears or with me getting a new bad habit. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a fighting/platforming game with such a silly cast of Nintendo characters, that you would assume it would have died off after the first game, but the series has prevailed with its legion of devoted fans and I was determined to find out why.

Each Super Smash Bros. Brawl character has several types of moves ranging from smash attacks to special attacks to grab and throws. They also get items that drop randomly throughout stages that provide special attacks or recover health. Health is determined by how low their damage percentage is and each vs. goal is to raise your enemies’ percentage high enough, so that when you use your smash attack to knock them off screen they won’t return. Some characters’ moves seem to work better than others, but everyone I played with seemed to pick their favourites based on skill level. I found Fox McCloud and Link easier to use than most, but even their characters were hard to control, especially when it came to jumping and landing.

Players get a multiplayer and single player mode to choose from. The single player option offered modes where you could train against controlled or computer opponent and an adventure game, where you could play through the roster of open characters and unlock a few new ones along the way. There are also mini games and events to play to unlock more fun stuff.

The multiplayer mode offers several brawl modes where you can fight up to 3 opponents, human or computer at once, or 16 opponents at a time, or even 32 opponents in tournament mode and finally there are two brawl modes where you can set the rules to your liking with or without affecting your fighting records. Here you can also save your brawl records onto your Wii remote, so you can take your remote to a friend’s house to brawl over there.

Online play was absolutely terrible and was more trouble than it was worth. Nintendo gives you the option to play with friends on your list, but you and your friends must each input the friend codes from both the system and the game to play each other. Anyone mode allows you to play anyone online without codes, but its not that good either because trying to find someone online at any point during the day is darn near impossible. I did manage to convince a friend or two to play online with me, but our connections were weak and we kept getting dropped off mid-game, so in the end, I just gave up on trying to play online.

I did love playing through all the Nintendo themed levels with all the NES characters and the best part was being able to see some of those old characters recreated in 3D just for this game. I loved the adventure mode and honestly preferred it over the brawl mode because it actually felt like the characters fit in the game. Fighting games need hardcore characters and Mario just doesn’t seem right for the role, which for me made the brawl part of the game less fun. Difficult controls, boring concepts and cute characters beating on each other just didn’t hook me.

If you truly love fighting games and are a Nintendo fan, then please buy this game, but if you prefer flawless victories over seeing Wario’s farting attack, then don’t bother picking up Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Dead Ahead: Theatre that Jack Thompson needs to see

Dead Ahead isn't like any of the kiddy plays you remember seeing in school, but perhaps that's a good thing.

The plays running at the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People are setting a new trend in theatre world by teaching youth about the big, bad world around them, instead of showing the usual sugar coated fantasy stories.

Dead Ahead features a story about Cory, Andrew and Tiga who are all avid players of the violent video game, Dead Ahead. The goal of the game is “Gangland Supremacy in Mega City” where society’s rules, mores, and morality have little currency.

Using the game format as a framing device, this teen thriller examines group dynamics, societal responsibility, and ultimately - teen homicide. As the drama unfolds, the play’s characters are thrust into a moral dilemma when one of them commits murder. Is the murder justified? Is murder ever justified? Should they cover up the crime, or should they call the police?

In a striking conclusion, the play becomes interactive – and the audience must decide how the ending will be played out.

While I was originally terrified by the concept of the play and figured it for another strike against the gaming industry, I was impressed to hear why the author, Edward Roy choose to write the play as he did and was glad to see someone else trying to get the word out that real world violence amongst youth today goes deeper than video games and rap music.

"I started investigating how many teens were murdering their parents," said Roy, "and that both fascinated and horrified me."

Dead Ahead doesn't take the easy way out by suggesting video-game violence leads directly to actual instances of murder, but Roy warns us about what happens when an entire generation grows up playing games "where they shoot guns, people fall and yet nothing lasting happens."

Perhaps the most frightening thing that Roy has clued into is that real-world violence itself isn't the scariest part of the equation: it's the impulse that leads to it.

"A lot of kids walk around today," says Roy, "and their emotional baseline is repressed rage. They don't know how to identify it. They don't know how to deal with it.

"The wrong kid in the wrong place at the wrong time is capable of murderous actions we couldn't even begin to imagine."

McInnis feels that putting plays like these onstage ultimately does more good than harm.

"I know that some people feel we're running the risk of encouraging violence in our children by exposing these emotions, but I feel that they're far more dangerous if they're left repressed.

"We live in a world today where violence is so much a part of everything around us that to deny it is to create an atmosphere that gives it far more importance than it ought to have."

Roy reminds us that we must never forget that "to young adults of a certain age, what's most important to them is not what their parents think of them, but the approval of their peer group."

That's what winds up being so lethal in Dead Ahead, The issue is not whether it's right for one individual to kill another, but what peers think of that action.

"Kids today don't care what they think of themselves or what their parents think of them. It what their friends think that matters the most."

Dead Ahead is currently playing at the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People in Toronto and for ticket and perfomance schedules, go to www.lktyp.ca

Review: God of War: Chains of Olympus

God of War: Chains of Olympus
SCEA, Ready at Dawn
Available for the PSP

If ever there was a reason to purchase a Sony PSP, it would have to be God of War: Chains of Olympus. Ready at Dawn studios have created an amazing new game around our favourite Ghost of Spartan and I promise you that God of War fans will not be disappointed.

Instead of continuing the God of War II storyline, Chains of Olympus takes us back before Kratos kill Ares to a time when he was still a servant to the Gods. After protecting Attica from the Persians, Kratos is charged by Athena to return Helios, the Sun God, to the Sky before he burns out and the Earth dies under Morpheus', the Dream God's black cloud.

The fighting system is fairly similar to past God of War games, but this time around you don’t have a second analog stick, so dodging is done with the trigger buttons. Kratos still has his Blades of Chaos, but this time around he also gets a Sun shield and the Gauntlets of Zeus, as well as a new bag of magic tricks. Much like a fighting game, Kratos has button combos that unleash certain attacks on his enemies, but you can still button mash on the easy setting and still make it through. The harder the mode though, the more cool features you’ll unlock, so don’t be afraid to attempt harder levels.

Luckly the whole game isn’t just fighting and has a certain amount of puzzle solving which will keep players on your toes. The puzzles aren’t too hard that you‘ll have to keep running to your online FAQ for help, but they’re hard enough to make you try 10 different solutions before you find the right one. I was disappointed to see the lack of big boss battles throughout, but if you get a chance to unlock the lost levels video, you get to see a lot of puzzles and bosses, the developers left on the cutting room floor for whatever reason. Big mistake cause they look friggn’ amazing and would have really added to the short game play.

Graphically, Chains of Olympus is a feast for the eyes with its detailed 3D environments and it is easily just as pretty as its PS2 counterparts. Maybe not as detailed as the PS2 games, but the fact that I can even compare a PSP game to its PS2 brothers when comes to graphics, is just a phenomenal fact in itself. More PSP games should be made this well, especially when so many have been ports.

The sound is full and gripping on the PSP's little speakers and to hear Kratos’ thundering pipes as he yells to the Gods is just stellar, especially if you play with headphones on. The music was again the usual theatrical epic battle music which fits well in the God of War series and to this day, I am glad that the creators of the God of War series voted against the use of 80s heavy metal music. It would have just cheapened the experience.

I've only had the pleasure of playing 3 PSP games since I got my system, but from everything I've read, heard and played on the Sony PSP, I can honestly say that God of War: Chains of Olympus is the best game available for the system to date and there is no better reason out there to purchase this system. If God of War: Chains of Olympus had been released a year ago, I think the PSP would have sold a lot better than did and I truly hope all game developers take note of this game and make more PSP games like it.

Oops ... I broke my site again.

lolcats funny cat pictures

Damn it! See what happens when you play with your site template without backing it up first.

I have a wide screen monitor and I realised a while back that my Joanne Dark background was getting cut off on regular 17" and 19" screens, so I figured today I would play around with my template again to fix it for normal monitors. Unfortunately I screwed up and broke it. Lost the widgets for most of my links, ads, etc., so now I have to replace them all.

I found a template for now, until something better comes long. Say Hi to Lara! She's watching you.

Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe Trailer: Superman kicks everyone's ass

Though I'm too if I like the idea of Mortal Kombat character beating up on DC Super Heroes, expecially if there isn't going to be any fatalities finishing moves, I do think the game trailer look pretty darn good looking. So even if the game bombing, at least it will leave a good looking corpse.

My biggest problem with using DC characters is the life long problem with Superman being way too powerful for anyone to take him down, so unless the Mortal Kombat characters come equipped with Kryptonite, then anyone being able to KO Superman is impossible by DC standards.

Grand Theft Auto IV: What are you doing? Trailer

Next week Grand Theft Auto IV hits store shelves and more people in North American will be calling in sick than on Madden release day. Trust me.

I haven't been really excited about this game until I watched a trailer on Gamespot that the embed code won't work for, so here's a working version of the trailer from Gametrailers.com. Wow! This game is coming out on my birthday ... I'll be 27 ... arg, and so far not a bad birthday present, Rockstar.

Look my review later in May.

I, on the other hand, was spending my gorgeous first week of spring on the couch, playing a virtual round of 18 holes with Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds. No stranger to the Hot Shots Golf series, I was reluctant to play the game again, after my bad run in with Hot Shots Golf 3. I was a Tiger Woods Golf fan and after trying HSG for only a round or two, I was put off by the lack of character choice and difficult controls.

The series seems to have come along since that game though, because I found the new swing systems must easier to handle this time around. The new system has players pushing a button three times on a meter to start the swing, determine the power behind the swing, and the club’s impact point on the ball which will also determine direction of the ball. The advanced system has no meter system, but instead a ghost club appears on screen to show the player the perfect spot for max power and a ring system that shows the perfect impact spot based on the moment a ring closes over the ball. I found the advanced system is much easier for putting based on its length reference point versus the meter system on the traditional system.

Players can choose from training, challenge, online and multiplayer modes. Challenge modes have you playing in tournaments to unlock new equipment, outfits, caddies, courses and golfers. While playing any mode except for training, you can increase your golfer's stats and their golfing skills, which are automatically recorded after the completion of each round. I didn't like that you couldn't make your own golfer and even when you could unlocked new ones, you could transfer your raised stats from your current golfer to the newer one.

Online games were setup in virtual lobby where you could talk to other character's avatars, setup up games, and enter tournaments. I found I was locked out of every tournament though when I tried to enter, but you can create individual online games with the people walking around in the lobby by talking to them and asking for a game.

The golf courses have been updated to more realistic looking environments, but the characters remain colourful and animated though, much like a Japanese cartoon. The music in the game was very dull and made me feel like I was stuck in an elevator for an hour. The characters each have a unique number of cute sayings and all of them have a different personality and background. I couldn't figure out why the American kid looked and sounded like an Australian though?

I'm happy to see that Hot Shots Golf has changed since the last time I played it, so much in fact, I'm actually getting my friends to play and would definitely tell other people to get their friends and family to play with them. It's easy to pick up and play on the traditional controls mode, and once you learn the advance controls, even a serious golfer will enjoy it. So set your tee time with Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds and still get in a round of 19 holes on those rainy days.

Review: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Square Enix
Available for the PSP

North American Final Fantasy fans experienced one giant moment of pure happiness on March 24, when Square Enix finally released Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, the long awaited sequel game to possibly the best role-playing game ever made, Final Fantasy VII. Even I experienced a magical tingle as I sat watching Crisis Core’s start menu cinematic and held my breathe as I beheld the now gorgeous looking Sephiroth, Cloud and Aeris in their newly remodelled skins.

Crisis Core: FF VII, a prequel to the events in FF VII, allows us to look into events of Soldier, the war with Wutai and the Shinra Corporation before the events of FFVII but this time we see the story though the eyes of a soldier named Zack, whom we have come to know only bits and pieces about.

The new combat system is still turn based but its much faster paced now, almost like you're playing a button masher and now Zack has a series of wheels called DMW determining his levelling up and limit breaks, based on Soldier points. Zack‘s actions are controlled by the player, while his companions' attacks are dealt out by the DMW. I found it frustrating to control items and magic spells with the new system, but without the fast pace system, I doubt Zack‘s lack of team element would work.

The controls were a little frustrating when it came to switching between attacks, magic spells and items, but it could be just me and my lack of time with my PSP. The DMW system though it seems random, actually deals out actions in a good amount of time, even though I would have preferred the old limit break and level up system from FFVII.

Missions come through the game either from the storyline or through the menu system, which allows you to go on side missions to gain experience or items. Each missions isn’t too long between save points either that it doesn’t make it hard for gamer to play it while on their lunch or on the bus.

The cinematic scenes in Crisis Core are comparable to the movie, FFVII: Advent Children graphics, but the game play scenes are more like Kingdom hearts graphics. The music is stellar, but when you're dealing with FFVII music how can it not be and the new heavy rock music that’s been added in , I find fits the game theme well. The sound effects have been ported over from the original FFVII which just add to the pulling of this fanboy's heart strings, but the voice that intros every battle in the game is bloody annoying -- she’s like the computer on the Enterprise but more annoying.

I can't help but be disappointed by the new confusing combat system and by the total lack of team battles, but honestly my fanboy love for FFVII can't let me put this game down, just for the very fact that I want to play through the storyline and all the great cinematics and music. Call out me for my fanboyism, but I will defend Crisis Core against the critics and say that's it’s a good game. Well worth the purchase and maybe even a PSP purchase, but that could be pushing it.

U.S. Economy Isn't Hurting Videogames Sales One Bit

You'd never know that the U.S. Economy was hurting right now if you looked at the videogame industry sales figures.

Video games software sales rose 63% from March 2007 to $945.6 million, which is higher than analysts had expected. Most analysts expected an average growth of 47% over the last year, but with games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl selling 2.7 million units, and Army of Two and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 selling over 600,000 units, it's not hard to see why the market is booming.

Hardware sales are booming too with a 46% increase in Nintendo console and handheld sales and the PSP sold 297,000 units in February alone. Game accessories have gone up 58% from last year and with Grand Theft Auto IV coming up, analysts are expecting a huge boost to the Xbox 360 and PS3 console market.

No one should be surprised though at the increase in gaming sales. During the depression, people still continued to spend money on movies because when times are bad, people still need an escape and right now video games are that escape. Better than spending your money on moon pies and penny whistles.

Review: Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wraith

Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath Expansion Pack
Electronic Arts
Available Now for PC

During the time when Nintendo 64, Playstation and Dreamcast reined the console market, I turned my gaming habits over to the PC and took special interest in real time strategy games like Warcraft, Starcraft and Command and Conquer. Once the Playstation 2 came out though, it was back to console gaming I never really looked back until recently when I upgrade my old PC to my wonderful new gaming rig and with my new PC I picked up C&C 3 and the new expansion pack, Kane’s Wrath.

Say what you will about live action cut scenes nowadays but I still think that they are the best thing in videogames to this day and I wish more companies would hire cool actors to do them. Command and Conquer games have been doing the live action thing since the beginning and still love to watch actors like Carl Lumbly and Natasha Henstridge in a game instead of computer generated ones though some games still need them like Final Fantasy for example.

For those you have been playing the C&C games for the beginning will love that Kane’s Wrath fills in a lot of details about the C&C canon, but for those who haven’t been following the story will have to read the unlockable database information to understand most of the gaps in the storyline as the cut scenes jump around too much for new comers to understand the plot.

This new expansion provides players with a new single player campaign that has 13 missions that begin in the year 2034 just after the events of the firestorm expansion to C&C 2: Tiberian Sun and end around 2053 after the third Tiberium War. Players will have to chance to see more details behind C&C history during those 18 years which is a real treat for hardcore C&C fans.

For skirmish and multiplayer games, players can now choose from not only the core factions of GDI, Nod and Scrin, but now there are an additional six sub-factions: The Steel Talons, ZOCOM, Black Hand, Marked of Kane, Reaper -17 and Traveler-59. The sub-factions use the same building and unit types as the faction from which they are derived, but they also bring new units and more specific advantages to the battlefield. In addition to the sub-factions and their new unit types: the main factions have new units as well as an epic unit now.

Kane’s Wrath also added a new mode called Global Conquest, a turn-based “Risk” like mode, which seemed a bit odd since C&C games have always been about speed and action and this slows the game down to a dull pace. It’s very complicated, takes about 20 to 30 minutes to finish and I’m not really a fan of it. I rather stick to the regular online play than play this turn based mode.

While I found the single players campaigns to be fun and challenging to play, my biggest problem remains with the online play as it seems EA still hasn’t work out the bugs. The servers seem to be having a problem detecting players and since they can’t see them, the server will in turn kick them off. Also I still think and many agree that the Scrin are too powerful compared to the other factions and many players have set “no Scrin” rules to avoid quick ending games.

All in all though, I’m never one to turn down an expansion pack purely for the reason that it just keep my favourite games going and going with new campaigns and new units or factions to play with, so who could say no to that, right? Map editors and online games can’t only keep you interested in a game for so long, so if you own Command and Conquer 3 and want to add some extra fun to it, then pick up Kane’s Wrath for your PC and get more out of your C&C 3.

Is Wii Pole Dancer Something You Would Take a Spin On?

Now this is a game I'll be scoring high points on.

Peekaboo Pole Dancing company is apparently shopping around their own brand of game entertainment for the Nintendo Wii to potential partners in the gaming industry. The company which produced Carmen Electra's home pole dancing kit, is looking to create a game for the Nintendo Wii that will allow gamers to lose weight while learning to shake their booty like a pole dancer.

The game will come complete with a pole that will setup easily in the home, much like Carmen's pole kit and the company hopes to build this game onto the Wii fit exercise based image. Peekaboo expects the game is be a huge success along with the other pole dancing exercise products out there.

Frankly I'm not sure if Nintendo's family friendly image is going to jump at such a game, but I know a lot of female gamers that wouldn't be afraid to rack some points up swinging around on the pole at house.

Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People

I keep seeing this trailer run over and over again today because I have left the TV on G4TV and they keep playing the same X-Play episode at 12pm, 3pm and 5:30pm and the episode has this trailer on it.

Anyway, this trailer is for the new Wiiware game, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. I have never seen the show before and couldn't even tell you what the heck it's about, but the trailer for the game is too funny not to post.

And here's a video where you also see Strong Bad play in 3D, walk in 3D and see his friend's in 3D.

Ubisoft buys Game Loft's Studio in India: They Celebrate with Chick peas, Lentils and Rice

Ubisoft announced on Tuesday that they have closed the deal to purchase Game Loft's studio based in Pune, India. Game Loft is known more as a mobile game company but they also deal with Xbox, PC, Nintendo DS, iPod and Blackberry games.

Ubisoft has already ties with Game Loft, as they port games like Catz, Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia to handheld units for Ubisoft. With the purchase of Game Loft's studio in Pune, India though, Ubisoft will have a team available that already has been porting games to the Nintendo DS for Ubisoft and reinforcing their testing team for a while.

The team that consists of 150 members hopes to grow to 200 members by the end of the year and hopefully 500 members in the next few years. Ubisoft hopes this purchase will help solidify their presense in the Asia market.
"Following on the recent announcement of our new Singapore studio, this acquisition
will reinforce Ubisoft's presence in Asia and the southeast region in particular.
India has a promising future in the videogame industry and this is an opportunity
for us to establish ourselves in the country," stated Christine Burgess-Quémard,
executive director, worldwide studios at Ubisoft.
The studio will be closed during the first quarter of the 2008/2009 fiscal year while Ubisoft works on bringing the company over into the Ubisoft team.

Ubisoft announces demo for Haze on PS3

Ubisoft will be releasing a demo for their title, Haze on the Playstation Network in early May and players will not only be able to check out the game's first player experience but they will also be able to check out a demo of the game's 4 player co-op mode.

Haze, which is a first-person shooter set in a horrible future where war is never quite what it seems, is set to be released on the Playstation 3 exclusively on May 20, 2008. Developed by Free Radical, Haze looks freakn' awesome and I am personally looking forward to it.

SCEA Unveils its Shiny New Playstation Store Layout Today: The Bathroom's Two Doors Down on the Left

Sony will be revealing its newly revamped Playstation Network Store today. It will feature twice as many primary shopping categories, making browsing through content quick and simple.

The categories will include New Releases, Downloadable Games, View All By Title, Add-Ons, Demos, Videos, Themes & Wallpapers, and Featured Items.

Other improvements will include a new Preview feature that enables customers to stream trailers and view screenshots of PLAYSTATION® Network games before they buy, and the addition of a shopping bag icon next to purchased items to assist customers in tracking their purchases.

I just recently got a PS3 and found the store a bit hard to navigate, so personally I'm glad to see the Sony has changed the layout of the store to make it easier to find the themes, wallpapers and such. I'll be jumping on later tonight to give it a once over.

Review: Agatha Christine's And Then There Were None

Agatha Christine's And Then There Were None
The Adventure Company, AWE Games
Available for Nintendo Wii and PC

In the classic story, And Then There Were None, 10 people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Shipwreck Island by a host who, surprisingly fails to appear. One by one, the guests share the darkest secrets of their wicked pasts and one by one, they die in sync with a little poem in the house, “Ten Little Sailor Boys“. Agatha Christie fans and newcomers to the genre can look forward to a series of unexpected turns; although the storyline stays true to the original concept, players will encounter new plot twists and lots of puzzle solving to keep them busy.

The first comes in the form of an 11th character, the player, a boatman who brings the others to the island and then is trapped there himself. To save the lives of the intended victims, the player must unravel the motives behind the murders and uncover the identity of the killer. If successful, he will spare not only the lives of the remaining guests, but also his own.

Using the Wii remote controller, game play in this traditional PC adventure game can be taken to a new level of interactivity. For instance, players will have the freedom to control their character's actions, such as using a digging motion to scoop flour, or turn the handle on a door; and the introduction of timed puzzles where, for example, players must race up a set of stairs from a boat docked below. However The Wii remote motions weren’t programmed well and I found myself struggling just to open doors in the game.

Much like normal point and click games, players must find clues and items to solve the mystery behind the 10 little sailors murders and the mysterious guest. The puzzles I found were down right impossible to figure out on your own with having to resort to cheating. With silly solutions and sometimes hard to find key objects, its no wonder this game is incredible hard to figure out and would even have Agatha Christine tearing her hair out.

I noticed that the graphics and music haven’t changed much since the last time I played an adventure company game which was about 10 year ago and surprisingly I’m not really not that bothered by it. Truly if I wanted next generation graphics, I wouldn’t be playing the Nintendo Wii, so the 1990s looking Gabriel Knight characters don’t really bother me. I tend to play point and click games for the storyline and the puzzle solving though, and not the graphics and the music.

Although I was happy to see The Adventure Company stay true to the original storyline of Agatha Christine’s masterpiece, And then were none, also know as Ten Little Indians, I was completely thrown off by the incredibly hard puzzles in the game. Even when I referenced the answers online, the puzzles still really didn’t make sense on how they fit together. If you’re a real big fan of Agatha Christine and you want a mystery game that going to test your deduction skills to the core, then pick this title up for the Nintendo Wii or PC, but I suggest no Watson out there should pick up this title without his Sherlock Holmes on call.
